Sabres - pick 2nd draft Reinhart

Sabres trade 5th overall pick (from. NYI) and 2nd rd pick to either Edmonton 3rd or Calgary 4th and select Bennett.

- Irish 14

I would love to see them grab both. The teams that need D need it now. They can't afford to wait 2-3 years for them to develop. I would assume the forwards are going to do a year in the minors....

should have clarified. hubie nailed it. no one here thinks he'll be a center in the nhl for whatever reason.

I don't mean to doubt this but is there a source or do you have an inside source? Other scouts have said Bennett is a center, has been one almost all his time in juniors and will be one in the NHL. He played wing in, I believe midgets, with Conner McDavid.

I'm glad I've taught you about the IT FACTOR. I provide the info and others regurgitate it.
- GilPerreault11

If it makes you feel better, it's not directed at you. It's more directed at the little petty things people cling onto here like whether a player is local , tall, handsome or whether someone's "It" factor is bigger than the other players

I actually found it funny people kept bringing up the fact you said he had an It factor.

Sabres GM Tim Murray: "We have a forward that we have somewhat of a consensus in the group that is at the top of the forward list

Sabres GM Tim Murray on Isles' pick: "Staying at five there’s a better possibility of us getting their pick versus if they had moved to one"

Sabres Tim Murray: "We probably have a better chance of getting the guy that we have 1 than we had a chance today of getting the first pick"

Sabres GM Tim Murray: "We’ll get a good player, and I think there’s a great chance we could get a guy that we have 1 on our list

This screams Sam Bennett to me.. I was right about Florida winning the lottery and I have a feeling I'm going to be right about Sam Bennett too..

- bluengold12

Not any slight against Bennett, but how does this make you think of him? They didn't mention anything about the players' styles, or anything of the sort. Both Bennett and Reinhart have been slated as the best forward in scouts' lists... And that's the only thing Murray mentioned, who they have at #1.

I just can't see the Isles giving up a top 5 pick
- Sabresfan-365

I can't either because they assume they're going to be awesome next year and their pick will land in the bottom half of the draft. Lucky for us that's just not the case.

That opinion certainly isn't unanimous. I've seen bennett ranked higher, ekblad ranked higher. /shrug. pretending like sam reinhart is the only possible player to go at the first pick for any team is a little silly.

Many of us, including me, believe that Reinhart is the best player in the draft, but our thoughts aren't any guarantee that the GMs think the same way. IMO FLA sees Ekblad as the best available and they take him.
- LetsGoBuffalo75

yea thats my point, people were on here talking like reinhart is hands down the best player in the draft, and he clearly isnt.

http://www.mynhldraft.com/NHL-Mock-Draft/

It didnt take long for them to change their "rankings," its a a 3-way draw, and it doesnt really matter who we get at 2, we have a lot of holes to fill, including defense.

i have no opinion on the matter. i dont watch juniors, am not aware.

most of the comments directed towards bennett the past few weeks have him pencil'd in as a winger for whatever reason.

/shrug, dunno why. like i said i'm not hugely knowledgeable on the kids.

Murray has mentioned multiple times that they're going to pick the best player according to THEIR scouting, not anyone else's.
Kind of leaves it open to interpretation there....

just like you're here to give us the definitive knowledge you've gained from your time travel.

there is no way to know. criticizing me for something as asinine as that while making definitive statements about a draft that never happened or never will happen in the case of edm first is stupid.

give me a break dude.

which literally changes nothing about your previous statement being illogical. which is all i said.

Florida and edmonton are teams with similar needs, with the except of goalie after they snagged luongo. pretending like one option is magically way better than the other MAKES NO SENSE.

i think its fairly likely reinhart goes first. not my ideal scenario, but its what my brain is telling me happens. i think the same would have happened had edmonton drafted first, or they would have traded down, which isn't exactly ideal for us anyways.

- Putzfrau

Edmonton would have taken Ekblad. Florida will take Reinhart. But really, I am glad you are hear to explain all the complicated scenarios for us.

Good point but its more a feeling for me than fact on this one... Allthough Bennett has risen lately Reinhart's the bigger name and I think generally a guy most think could go 1 so judging by Murray's comments it just feels like Bennett is the pick but I hope I'm wrong

Really I know that he would be the best one that could maybe transition to winger better over Reinhart. If you draft Reinhart he should stay center, Bennett on the other hand thou.

I still see us taking Ekblad in the end. He is what we need we don't have a #1 D-men in our system we have tons of forwards who are becoming or could possibly end up top 6 for us. Barkov, Bjugstad, huberdeau, are just to name a few.

When asked if they won if they would take Ekblad, Edmontons GM just said "Defense is our deepest position of prospects, so no one should count on what we will do".

Regardless, we need to be better, we're going to get a world class player, and we will be better. Period.
