If you read my original post, I said that advanced stats are good to help support an argument but shouldn't be the #1 reasoning, so I guess we agree. My previous posts are more directed to the people who say "Phaneuf is a top 10 defenseman in the league because of his QoC." Yea, but if you watch Phaneuf play, you see him constantly get beat to the outside by speed and be terribly inconsistent. "No it doesn't matter because his QoC is higher than Subbans!" - rangerdanger94
Phaneuf's Quality of Competition is an indicator of the Leafs lack of depth at the position.
They're so (frank)ed. |

Lies. Didn't we all hear yesterday the he was adamant about waiting until he was a college UFA and that he'd never be a Flyer? - jmatchett383
I didn't even participate in that drama -- didn't understand it, will never understand obsessing over a kid who the Flyers have the rights to who hasn't signed
But am glad he signed so people who were less comfortable got some good news |

So you're saying Kunitz's skill level is comparable to Patty Kane's? - rangerdanger94
Kunitz is a highly skilled player in the NHL and so is Kane. They both produce a lot of points. Kunitz might do it by being good in the corners and have a shot that does not miss when Crosby gets him the puck. Kane might be able to dipsy do around defensemen and get Hossa the puck. To say one is more skilled is completely opinion based, when they put up the same point totals. |

Not saying you specifically, but I was led to believe, yesterday, that by answering a direct question, we'd never see him in the O&B. |

Basically yes, that is what I'm saying. Stats can only tell you so much and watching the game and watching the player play consistently tells you a hell of a lot more than Corsi can ever tell you. - rangerdanger94

You can offer something where your only giving up a 2nd round pick. Like when Clarke offer sheeted kesler. it was just high enough to make vancouver think about it because it was for potential. I know potential can get you fired but can also make you look like a genius.
For some of those names I would be willing to try. Obviosuly PK would be a different animal but others might make a team think twice depending on other holes they have to fill - J35Bacher
Offering something that is only going to require a 2nd round pick as compensation, is a waste of time. |

HA! Come on, now -- you KNOW that poop would crack this board in half.
He looks like he's gonna get a shot in Game 1....a shot he earned over the past three years in the AHL, in my opinion.
If he can't cut it, then he can't cut it. But at least it shows that if you put in the work, you can get a chance -- and maybe some of the people who continually call the guy an AHL player can actually root for a guy who has done nothing but perform for the Flyers' farm team. - AllInForFlyers
i'm all for giving him a shot. i just wish it happened sooner...like 20-40 games sooner. none of the call ups have had any impact or made any difference...just roster filling...so in my view the guy can't be any worse, and he might actually pot some goals. he's got to be motivated to perform at this point. this is his chance. hopefully he makes it count. |

Most likely. The only way to have an OS succeed is to make it a crazy deal (i.e. Chris Gratton). |

Agreed here, and while he wears a Flyers sweater, I'll be pulling for him. Looks like he's finally get a shot (albeit a small one), so hopefully he comes in and proves he belongs. |

Call me crazy, but I think 100 out of 100 professional NHL scouts would say that Kane has more skill and talent than Kunitz does. |

That's exactly where I am. Everybody should get a chance. I do wish it had come a little sooner, because that would have been best. But everybody who performs should get even the slightest chance to make it.
Chris VandeVelde, Kris Newbury, etc.,...those guys all got a shot, had their shot. Jason Akeson might not make it -- the odds are against it.
But he did earn that shot, if he is in for Game 1

And there are the amateur advanced stats groupies, like that women who was the source of the data in a previous article about zone entries. That combined with her twitter comments. She doesn't have the first clue about this game. - MJL
So female fan... must be a clueless groupie? Wow. |
