Fair enough. The AMac deal, in a vacuum, doesn't look great. But when you look at it league-wide based on trends, and look at the current Flyers defense group, it's not a terrible signing. |

You would have to watch every Flyer game before and after Amac came here.
The D has been much better since he arrived.
They gave up 2 picks to get the guy and there was no way they were letting him walk.
If he had signed for 4.5 per yr everyone would be raving about how great it was.
Well maybe not everyone, the Corsi people hate him.
So they maybe overpaid a bit. It was a necessary signing.
Letting Carle walk set their D back and they weren't going to make the same mistake with Amac.
So yes he is serious and he's right. - Marc D

There will always be terrible deals. Yes the Vinny deal looks bad but look what it has done. Everyone wants a 4th line that can play and Berube moved vinny down and created a 4th line that can play. He also can move to the 2nd line when late in games or needs goals. Also Vinny eems to get a little more space on the 4th line because he goes against weeker defenders usually. I thnk Berube has done a good job in using what he was given this year. Also If schenn is traded in the offseason for some upgrade somewhere then you insert vinny into the 2nd line center spot. |

A solid all around puck moving top 4 NHL defenseman. - MJL
I disagree with the term "puck moving" He makes a good first pass.. outside of that.. He doesnt contribute much in the moving category. Just my opinion. Puck movers are guys like Carle, Goligoski, Shattenkirk, etc etc. |

Like I said earlier.. Im not sure I like the deal, but Im also not sure that I dont like it. I think we needed to re-sign him, but I am not sure I like the terms. - jak521
I don't think most people like the term, but it was, sadly, a necessity. The same way people were against giving Kimmo that 1-year, $6M deal...they had to, and it paid off. |

He's a good transition player, and can move the puck in the offensive zone. I just wish he was better at getting his shots through on the PP. |

Now imagine the Rangers losing Girardi and Mcdonagh and playing Stralman 27 minutes per night against the toughest competition. How would that work out? - PhillySportsGuy
Our top d-pairing obviously wouldn't be as good but Stralman already plays ~20 minutes a game and often goes over into the 23-24 minute range some games and other games stays lower around 16-17 minutes. Staal - Stralman was our top d-pairing against Montreal last game and they shut them down. Stralman is a real good player. |

The underlying issue is the team's inability to draft and develop defenseman. It appears they're heading in the right direction, but they still need to overpay in order to bridge the gap.
Mac can really improve his overall play if he gets better in the neutral zone. The advanced stats show he's a good player in the offensive and defensive zone, but allows way too many easy entries into the zone. I feel this is an area he can improve because he's a good skater and has a good stick.
If he improves in that area, this deal turns into a great deal. If not, it's just fine. |

A better example. Put Stralman on the Isles with Brian Strait then play him 27 minutes against the toughest competition. |

F that! Rangers defense is so good because our forwards are also great 2-way players. Outside of Nielsen, Islanders don't have any forwards that are even decent at defense and that's one of the biggest reasons they blow monkey nuts! |

No I said the exact same thing about Coburn Amac.
They will bet set up to fail if they have to go with that as their #1 pair.
I think they make a big deal in the off season, or at least try to, to get that #1 guy.
It probably is going to hurt but they have to get it done.
One of LSchenn/Grossmann will be gone.
If they find the right guy to trade for it will likely cost a young center, a top prospect and a first. It is their way. If a top guy can be pried loose, they will be all in.
If not, then we'll see what happens. - Marc D
I hope so -- I think the time for the overpay has to be now, if Timonen doesn't come back.

Until some of the Flyers drafted D prospects pan out, these kind of UFA deals are necessary.
It is hard to find competent defenseman that can play top 4 minutes and be effective.
That's why these UFA guys have the GMs over the barrel.
There are a limited number of guys who can do it. |

The games ive seen amac play for you guys, hes looked great. Ive just seen him poop the bed on the islanders a ton and feel like its inevitable that he falls back down to earth some time next season. If not, congrats the islanders just sucked that badly that it made him look terrible. - rangerdanger94

He was pretty terrible for you guys, wasn't he? I remember seeing him fall on the ice with the puck causing turnovers, mishandling passes, passing directly to the other team, getting beat outside by speed, falling some more, passing the puck to nowhere some more. He was god awful for you guys.
The 4 or 5 Philly games I've seen him play in, he looks damn near an all-star player in them though. |

The Islanders are so against overpaying for a player. They'd rather let a player walk than overpay by $500k. The team constantly takes steps back because of this. - PhillySportsGuy
That was not the case with Streit and AMAC. Any of us would have packed their bags. Happy you guys like these deals. We like them too |
