They laughed at the Streit signing too and now they are in the lottery and Streit had 44 points in 82 games at +3. - Feanor
Isn't streit on your 3rd d pairing? And vinny is centering your 4th line? Idk if id like these deals that youve been handing out the past year or 2. |

I can almost guarantee that one of Grossmann/L Schenn will be gone come next season. And no, he's not Timonen, but no player like Timonen (even at this stage) will be available for just cap space. It's a market deal for a player like him. It may not be ideal, but it's not like Mac just raped the Flyers. - jmatchett383
I do understand market value, and I acknowledge that he was gonna get the $5 million.
But I hope you're right, that one of Grossmann or Luke Schenn gets moved in some type of package for an honest to gosh horse, because I don't think a Top 4 of Coburn/MacDonald Grossmann/Streit gets the Flyers where we all want them to go.

Streit is playing 3rd pair minutes and QBing the 2nd PP (will be the first unit next year). Vinny was going between the 2nd and 4th line C position and moves up to the 2nd line during games while playing on the PP. They may not be ideal deals, but they're hardly Wade Redden or Ilya Bryzgalov deals. |

What level is that? A top end number 1-2 all situation d-man? - jak521
A solid all around puck moving top 4 NHL defenseman. |

Islander fans are laughing at us? Was there a secret wc spot i didn't hear about that allowed them to make the playoffs. I forgot the islanders are so much better then the flyers. - J35Bacher
The games ive seen amac play for you guys, hes looked great. Ive just seen him poop the bed on the islanders a ton and feel like its inevitable that he falls back down to earth some time next season. If not, congrats the islanders just sucked that badly that it made him look terrible. |

Props to Tomahawk for bring up Ericsson. I wasn't feeling great about the MacDonald deal since it was two years and $12 million more than I wanted us to spend on him. But seeing that a 30 year old dman with no offensive game to speak of got six years at $4.25 million from Detroit makes the MacDonald deal look a lot better. |

That "horse" isn't available, and won't be unless one of our kids turns out to be. There is no trade short of absolute lunacy that will get a Weber/Doughty/Keith/Pietrangelo/etc. The best bet, right now, is to have a solid top-6, which is what they're attempting to do. |

Striet is not playing 3rd pair minutes. He is 3rd overall in total ice time. And 3rd in ES icetime. |

The Islanders were playing him on the top pair 24 minutes a night. |

If McDonagh was a UFA, he'd be making $7M easily. Are you trying to compare them? Because that deal (and the trade for him) were steals. Are you saying someone's gonna argue that? |

Wow that macdonald deal...he's been good for you guys since the trade but thats a real small sample size. I think you're gonna be regretting that midway through next season when he shows his true colors. There's a reason every islander fan is laughing at this. - rangerdanger94

I guess I'm not seeing MacDonald as more than a #4 -- which is not a crime -- but when you already have Coburn, Grossmann, Streit and Schenn making what they do...and you still need the #1/2...how are you going to afford that?
We just gave Timonen's salary, all but $1 million of it, to MacDonald. But he isn't that player -- and by definition, that's the player we need!
If the Flyers wind up moving Grossmann or Schenn to acquire that kind of player, then I will feel better about this deal.
But a Coburn/MacDonald pairing? Do we really want to see that? Because no matter how much of a fan I am, you can't ignore that MacDonald got exposed under heavy minutes against top lines while he was with the Islanders -- we can't just pretend that didn't happen because it's inconvenient. - AllInForFlyers
No I said the exact same thing about Coburn Amac.
They will bet set up to fail if they have to go with that as their #1 pair.
I think they make a big deal in the off season, or at least try to, to get that #1 guy.
It probably is going to hurt but they have to get it done.
One of LSchenn/Grossmann will be gone.
If they find the right guy to trade for it will likely cost a young center, a top prospect and a first. It is their way. If a top guy can be pried loose, they will be all in.
If not, then we'll see what happens.

Yea I think stralman is pretty underrated. Hes been our most improved player the last couple years and is real solid. Shame he's probably priced his way out of NY this summer. |

The Islanders are so against overpaying for a player. They'd rather let a player walk than overpay by $500k. The team constantly takes steps back because of this. |

I think he means a shot-blocking 2nd pairing defenseman who has a good transition game and puts up 25-30 points. - jmatchett383
Like I said earlier.. Im not sure I like the deal, but Im also not sure that I dont like it. I think we needed to re-sign him, but I am not sure I like the terms.

Now imagine the Rangers losing Girardi and Mcdonagh and playing Stralman 27 minutes per night against the toughest competition. How would that work out? |
