Opposite for me, I wish the cap dollars were lower, but he's only signed through age 33. Still, not super ultra upset like the rest of the universe.
- BulliesPhan87

Agreed with that last part for sure. He's integral to this D corps and the correct in and of itself is not outrageous. I'm fine with it.

I think he still has game left and will return for one more year.
- PhillySportsGuy

I dont want him for one more year. Everyone on hear talks about getting younger on d. Look at what happens to the phillies when they keep trying to get one more year out of aging vets. The time to move on would be next year. You locked up AMAC to be your new 2/3/4 dman and then you can filter in the younger d with Haag, Alt, Ghost(not likely but possible since krug did well). Got to start transition. I know everyone likes Gus but I just don't see that it factor in him. Doesn't do anything that seperates him from others.

Shea Weber is not coming here. The sooner you realize that, the better off you will be. Nashville just paid him
- jmatchett383[b$26MILLION for 1 1/2 seasons, so I doubt they're looking forward to moving him any time soon.

They still owe him a poop ton of money

Downie not on ice today; doubtful he plays in NY.

I bet his concussion symptoms have been bothering him for most of the season. It was asinine for the Flyers to even bring him back after suffering multiple concussions this season.

- PhillySportsGuy

It is clear his head isn't right. Probably never really recovered from the first one. I thought it was 2 concussions, which is bad but if it is 3 that's really bad. No way should the Flyers look to bring him back. There are players that can step in.

I don't mind the Mac signing I like what he brings, money might be a little too much but I think that is just the way it is.

In 2 years, his contract will become very team friendly.

He'd be getting Dan Girardi money
- PhillySportsGuy

Girardi got $5.5M for 6 years, didn't he? And that was without hitting UFA.

It was probably around $5M for multiple years, honestly. That's what guys like him will make, fair and just or not.
- jmatchett383

I disagree..

I just went on capgeek.. At 5.0 mil, MacDonald would be the highest paid d-man on 9 NHL teams, and would check in as the 28th highest paid d-man in the league.

Names on the list?
Chara, Myers, Wideman, Keith, Seabrooke, Wisniewski, Gonchar, Campbell, Doughty, Suter, Markov, Weber, Girardi, Karlsson, OEL, Yandel, Martin, Letang, Boyle, AP, Bouwmeester, Carle, Phaneuf, Green, Buff, Enstrom, and of course.. Streit.

His skill set is remarkably different than ANY of those guys, except Girardi.

If Coburn was a UFA right now, he'd be getting $5.5-$6M for 6 years, easily.

Yes, but not as much as the first 2 years, one of which was only 48 games. He's going nowhere fast.

Something like that. I think they're both fairly comparable. I'd give Girardi the slight edge on offense and Coburn the edge in mobility.

Dan Girardi @ $5.5M or MacDonald @ $5M?
- Tomahawk

Girardi is low down on the Rangers CF% chart so he must be pretty bad.

He definitely compares more closely to guys like Jonathan Ericsson and Niklas Hjalmarsson... both who just re-signed at $3.25M and $4.1M respectively.

The AMac deal is fine. It's what he would've gotten as a UFA. Had he had a stellar playoff series, he probably could've pushed the cap another $.5M. He's looked great for us over those 20 or so games. It likely spells the end of Timonen, unless he's willing to take a bit of a paycut. We'll wait and see. Either way, I'm glad this is resolved before the playoffs start.

Coburn - AMac
Gross - Streit
Gus - Schenn

You have size on each pair, and decent puck movement on each pair. Believe me, this is what you guys have been crying for the past few years. Either way, this defense is good enough to make a long run in the playoffs.

And Dion Phaneuf is making more than $2M a year more than Ryan McDonagh. But it was a deal Toronto had to make. You can't just do apples to apples because you have to factor in team needs. Should Ovechkin be making more than Toews?

Now, to be fair, some/most of those guys inked deals a few years ago, when the maker price for D was millions lower

Agree. You also have to look when guys singed their deals. Can't compare guys like Mike Green when he singed his deal 4 or 5 years ago. Markets change and that is why the deals change. Look what Weidman got when he signed.
