Very sad thought..
MacDonald had 4 points and was a -3 with the Flyers over 19 games. In Timonens last 20 games he had 16 points and was a +5.
You cant replace Timonen with MacDonald. - jak521
I'm confident 5 years from now a 32 year old AMac would have more value than a 44 year old Timonen. That has to be the rationale. |

I don't think so. He clearly has lost a step. i know he has played well but with them finally drafting d and possiblely some in the ahl that might be able to fill in, I think the AMac deal was done knowing they are moving on. If they move Grossman/L, Schenn they are moving one of there more phsycal dmen. Lauridsen filled in ok but I don't see him more then a 7th dman. Alt could fill in but I believe he is more a two way dman then an actuall physical defenseman. maybe Bill can provide some insight to what he thinks. - J35Bacher
Yeah Kimo looks great on the PP and has great instincts with the puck for the most part but he's definitely a pylon out there in transition, especially line rushes, etc. I think he's done after this season. |

I think he still has game left and will return for one more year. |

Cap hit is fine
Term is a year too long for my liking but whatever - Giroux_Is_God
Opposite for me, I wish the cap dollars were lower, but he's only signed through age 33. Still, not super ultra upset like the rest of the universe. |

Alt's bigger than he's given credit for, but he's not overly physical. Given Grossmann's knee problems, I think Lauridsen (who is surprisingly mobile) could possibly fill in for him, as he's really refined his defensive game this year. They're the only two who are ready for full-time NHL duty out of our prospect pool, assuming they want Morin to continue to refine his game in juniors (which they should).
And you're wrong. Kimmo has lost 2 steps. And as such, he's STILL our best defenseman. So if he wanted $3-$4M next year, I'd give it to him. |

Downie not on ice today; doubtful he plays in NY.
I bet his concussion symptoms have been bothering him for most of the season. It was asinine for the Flyers to even bring him back after suffering multiple concussions this season. |

I don't know why he keeps repeating the false claim that MacDonald is only a 4/5. He wasn't that in New York and he hasn't been that here. - Feanor
But that makes it harder to hate the deal. |

Longer contracts see a better value as the years go by when compared to the salary inflation of what it would cost to sign a comparable player. - MJL

The Amac deal works for me as long as they get another player to replace Kimmo.
For one thing it is the going rate for an UFA defenseman who can play top 4 minutes.
But I don't think they can pencil in Coburn Amac to be the top pair against top line competition. It didn't work out well for the Islanders and even if the Flyers are a better team I don't think it will work well here either.
As a second pair second PP guy he will do fine. |

Well, they were always gonna try to sign the player. And the market said MacDonald was gonna get the $5 million.
But: I said before I wouldn't have paid him more than Braydon Coburn, and I wouldn't have. Not a penny more. He's not a better player than Coburn. And I would have saved that money and done what it takes to find a better player than Coburn, and gave that player that money.
But, it's done now. Just have to hope he plays up to the contract. |

If Coburn was a UFA right now, he'd be getting $5.5-$6M for 6 years, easily. |

Shea Weber is not coming here. The sooner you realize that, the better off you will be. Nashville just paid him [b$26MILLION for 1 1/2 seasons, so I doubt they're looking forward to moving him any time soon. |
