Yeah. I know it's market value for a 3/4 guy, but the term's a bit long. Hopefully, he becomes another Coburn so we can all whine about him, and then ponder a future without him. - jmatchett383
I'm surprised they had the tagging space. Does that matter now that the season is over? |

They had around 11M of tagging space before the deal. And yes it still matters with the Season being over. |

I dont get Homers affinity for contracts that last longer than 3-4 years...
We now have 8 million dollars in potential cap space for next off season tied up in two re-signings... Mason goes from 1.5 to 4.1 and MacDaddy from .5 to 5.0 mil.
Not complaining.. I understand they needed to do something about the players.. but I wonder what they are gonna do about other needs... |

Well, I'm thinking one of Grossmann/L Schenn is gone this offseason and they'll probably give Alt/Lauridsen a shot at camp. Laughton is on his ELC, so the helps with the forward roles. |

Longer contracts see a better value as the years go by when compared to the salary inflation of what it would cost to sign a comparable player. |

This signing is telling me that Kimmo is not coming back next year. His money just went to Macdonald. |

As long as the cap continues to increase, it is. But still, that's a long time for a guy who, really, hasn't produced at that level. I know he's a two-way defender, but I expected a bit more offense out of him at this point. |

Only if a player is able to live up to said contract.

Apparently, the pre-emptive market value of AMac on a 3-4 year deal could have been $5.5-6M |
|

MacDonald is a fool. If he would have gotten to free agency, he would have been buried knee deep in 8 year 52 million dollar deals.
This Holmgren drives a hard bargain! |

On why eye test doesn't match Mac's numbers. If he can tighten up his neutral zone play, he can become a very good player. |

It was probably around $5M for multiple years, honestly. That's what guys like him will make, fair and just or not. |

Akeson taking 3rd line rushes. No Downie.
Good thing we waited until the end of the season to play Akeson. No need to get him some NHL experience before the playoffs |

Yeah, timing of that one was ironic. Can't wait to see that comment section blow up. |

Very sad thought..
MacDonald had 4 points and was a -3 with the Flyers over 19 games. In Timonens last 20 games he had 16 points and was a +5.
You cant replace Timonen with MacDonald. |
