Nice. Any 3rd party speculation on details?

I'd rather dig my nails in and try to pry John Carlson away even though it would cost more. If we're gonna go for it, let's swing for the fences.
- jmatchett383

I would do that too. Was trying to think logically who could be available and who would not cost an arm and a leg. I wouldn't mind Bogosian from the peg but think that might cost someone like b.schenn and picks.

Akeson is actually a bit lacking in straight ahead speed. That combo with lack of size is why he was not originally drafted despite his puck skills.
- bmeltzer

Good news is that there is a history of forwards who have overcome a lack of speed and size (and in some cases, defensive acumen) in recent years... Gagner, Parenteau, M Richards, Hornqvist, Tavares, Ribeiro, etc.

I'm not really interested in Bogosian. He's really fallen off.

That's true. Still, he's not the ideal fit, but given the other options we have.....

Absolutely. I'd love (well, again, given the options) to put Akeson on that 2W spot, Raffl on the 3W, and let McGinn/Downie arm wrestle for the 4W spot.

Andrew MacDonald and Mark Streit are the 2 highest-paid Flyer's defenseman next year (as of now).

Ah, six years and thirty million dollars. The going rate for a shot blocking defender these days.

The only good part about this signing is it makes it almost impossible for the Pens to re-sign Niskanen unless they move significant salary.

I'm waiting for MJL to come in and tell us its a great deal and the money doesn't matter

Yeah but maybe a change and getting out of the peg will help. Playing for a contender can change things. I would love to Gundbranson from Florida. Think he has the snarl on the back end almost like Pronger. And he is young.

Yeah. I know it's market value for a 3/4 guy, but the term's a bit long. Hopefully, he becomes another Coburn so we can all whine about him, and then ponder a future without him.

Zbynek Michalek v2.0.

Gonna be fun to watch Chris Butler sign for $3M/per on the open market.

They're both reclamation projects as of now. I'd prefer Bogosian of the two.
