My guess would be, and you might be able to provide some more insight being that you do ref for college games, that they were trying to prevent things from escalating. They figured that getting McCabe out of the game was the best way to diffuse the situation. That's really the only reason I can see for why they did that.

If McCabe had a history of things like that I could see that being a reason behind it but he doesn't. The game was getting pretty chippy, but the hit itself wasn't vicious and there wasn't intent on McCabe's part. So I mean as a ref I could feel it starting to get out of control but they still penalized the result and not the action which drives me crazy.

I guess in a way I'd rather them do what they did than risk some sort of injury to McCabe if someone tried to retaliate in some way. At least with him being in the locker room he wasn't going to end up concussed or anything himself so I suppose I shouldn't complain.

I have to say, I liked what I saw from him out of these handful of games. Him and Pysyk looked pretty good together yesterday.

I disagree with your first statement completely. McCabe did nothing wrong. THe refs are putting Buffalo shorthanded both on their bench and on the ice, in order to protect a player who did nothign wrong. Perhaps Paille should not skate with his head down through the middel of the ice. If a team is in a playoff race, and this happens, it is an absolute joke.

I didn't notice him yesterday so that's a good thing IMO. I said it to my cousin yesterday that I think McCabe is going to be a much better Mike Weber. A solid 3/4 guy who isn't going to put up a ton of points but isn't afraid to take the body and is good in his zone and will jump up in the play from time to time.

I still think they keep the pick. I don't see how they give us a top 5 pick unless they don't like anyone in that 5 range
- Stripes77

0 % chance they give us the pick. They need to replace either Moultson or Vanek and they can begin to achieve this in this years draft.Nothings a sure thing for next year except for there will be an entry draft. The media and fans love this talk tho and its good for a story.

I get what you're saying and I agree with it, but based on how poopty this season has been and the fact that that game was getting out of control, I'm going to take it as a blessing that he didn't end up hurt too. I'm kind of saying that in a way, they probably did us a favor, as stupid as it sounds.

I hate the call. Don't get me wrong. That was as textbook of a hit as you could get. I can see why they would call it interference, because Paille had already gotten rid of the puck, so I could have understood a 2 minute penalty.

Can you honestly say you would have rather seen him get punched in the face by some idiot like Lucic or Marchand and end up concussed? Because to be honest, I'd rather see him go into the offseason healthy and able to work on his game. Not sitting on a couch in the dark waiting for his concussion symptoms to go away.

I wouldn't even put McCabe and Weber in the same sentence.

The only reason I noticed either of them was because I was looking for them out there. Pysyk made a really nice defensive play late in the game on a 1 on 1 break.

As far as the not noticing them being a good thing, I've said that same thing before and was told that was stupid. I'm glad someone else understands.

IMO, this wouldnt happen. If McCabe is sucker punched by Marchand or Lucic they are sent to the dressing room and are suspended for playoff games, putting their team down a man in important games.

If it were to happen then, the refs of that game should be fired/suspended for letting things get that far.

Does this change McCabes game now where he wont be as phyisical because he made a clean hit and was punished for it?

I did say a much better version. Picture Weber of last year that can skate better.

IMO they keep the pick and then trade it for a NHL D-man and a younger top 9 forward.
or a starting goalie and a younger top 9 forward.

I'm not sure if they trade the pick. That would be 2 years in a row not drafting in the first round

McCabe is going to be better than Weber?

Jesus Christ he better be. Weber is the worst defenseman in the (frank)ing league.

context...please think about it without going crazy about a Mike Weber comparison.

Both play a similar style. With McCabe being potentially much better at it.

How about Robyn Regehr as a comp or maybe 50 other guys?

I hope I never have to watch Weber and McBain again.

IMO, Snow is in win now mode. a #5 pick who may not be in the NHL next year does not help that.

Weber had a good season last year. I think that is the minimum we would expect from McCabe. McCabe still needs a year in Rochester though I think

IMO McCabe is similar to Nik Kronwall

Plays bigger than what he is, does everything well, and can lay the body

Do we know if he can go down to Rochester for the rest of the year and the playoffs? Nobody seems to know for sure. Ruhwedel couldn't last year, but that's because he was signed as a college UFA. McCabe was already Sabres property so his situation is different.

I don't think he can. He would have had to play in Rochester at some point in the season I believe. I don't feel 100% confident in that response more like 75% confident.
