LOL... I played goalie in several sports. Just a little sensitive about Goalie rights. I want to be there lobbyist.

Over the long haul, he probably couldn't play 82 games, but he could have been utilized more. Not a load of talent, but Gill is a smart player with a lot of size.
- Jsaquella

For all the poop people have given Homer over signing Gill, it wasn't a bad signing. The guy was rarely going to play and it didn't prevent them from doing anything else.

Even though I don't see a lengthy playoff run, It's nice to have a 7th and 8th defenseman who are capable of playing more than 10 minutes if needed.

All those years we wished we had good goaltending and defensive depth...

Yup, as good as our top four was in '10, if we had only the bottom four we have now, we may very well had won the cup.

You read my mind. I was wondering how you guys think he could help us.

Not only would he step in, but would make either McDonald or Streit expendable, if you would consider them to all fill a similar role, not that having too many guys who can move is bad, but I still think they want Byfuglien and homer will not stop till he has his franchise dman.

And I am very curious how, after losing Kimmo, maybe adding Ghost and trading for Buff (who would then maybe mentor Morin down the line) we would look. Only untouchables being Claude and Coutourier.

But speculation is for the offseason so.....

It seems like yesterday I was sitting indian style with my hands in front of my eyes while Danny was going in for that shootout goal that launched us to the playoffs and finals (!)

I hate St. Louis so much more now, but I have no doubt we CAN beat them. Heres to hoping someone upsets the Bruins, I have no problem with the pathnof least resistance.

- DrMidnite

Or you find a way to stuff in gus, ghost, mac, streit and coburn into one lineup and boom we go from being one of the slower D corps in the league at the start of this season to being one of the fastest at the start of next season

Heading to the game today in a luxury box to celebrate my cousin's birthday, so it's basically serendipity that Art Ross Akeson gets a hat trick today.

I might have to craft my own Jason Akeson shirt/jersey if he does score today.

great, spontaneous interview w/ ghost after the game....i think he will take his time as the union program really seems to mean a whole lot to him......i hope the flyers don't get pissy if he chooses to go back. i would love to see him here asap but he looks like he is worth the wait

If he stays another year, the Flyers risk losing him to free agency. I hope they do everything necessary to get him signed. It really makes no sense for him to return to college. He has accomplished everything you can short of winning the Hobey Baker.

Agreed, I'm not too worried he doesn't sign soon. A good portion of Union's roster are seniors, they won't be as strong next year. They've been patient with him for this long, I don't see that changing. Let him go back to the campus as the conquering hero, enjoy the fruits of victory, and I'm sure he'll sign a pro contract in a few weeks.

i can see why they would want him sooner but i think they got bent w/ jvr for going back to school (jr year?).......if they lose this kid we'll know our luck has turned to poop

There was no risk of losing JVR no matter how many years he played in college.

just curious but what was the difference between the two scenarios? was it because he was a top 5 pick?

JVR was a first round pick. There was no risk losing him if he stayed 4 years (He only stayed 2).

Ghost can become a FA next summer if he stays for his senior year because he is a 3rd round pick.

Gostisbehere is wonderful (and I know you guys won't ever spell it right, but I sure hope Lou Nolan practices pronouncing it, because he wasn't close most of the night last night and got worse as he went along). BUT. He's an undersized college kid. He may develop into a Kimmo type defender in the NHL. And he has great speed and a crackerjack shot. But he did things even in the two games I saw that were high-risk plays you won't get away with in the NHL on a regular basis. LOVE him. Don't think he'd walk right in and "make an impact" or make any top-4 defender "expendable" immediately. Which is not to say I don't think he'll sign as soon as the celebration wanes.
