So Vinny's higher shooting percentage has to do with what? He's more selective?
- PhillySportsGuy

Has to do with the obvious. He's shot the puck well and has finished. And if he wasn't playing out of position for so long, his goal total would've been likely even higher.

Nhl needs to start cracking down on all cheap shots taken behind the play.
- FlyersSteve118

This I agree with.

Watch two linemen get into a shoving+shouting match after the play in the NFL, and we let out a collective groan. Watch two NBA players come to blows after a hard foul, and we lament the days of short shorts and peach baskets.

Watch the same poop happen hockey? If you don't take part in it, you're soft, a rube, a mark. While the guy with his stinky glove in your face, or slashing you on in the back of the leg is a warrior, a good Western Canadian boy.

Guy hit three posts with one shot. Hes on fire this year! Just because he is more opportunistic this year does not mean he cannot be more productive next year. It just means he will regress to the mean at some point. Next year he could generate way more shots and shot at a lower percentage and still s core at a better pace. He has been generating a lot more shots lately.

It might, but Raffl doesn't have an offensive track record in this League to know that for sure. But Lecavalier certainly does.

I thought we were comparing Read and Raffl in that sense.

He thought he was wrong once, but he was mistaken. It's sad when people have such a desperate need to always be right.

There's a happy medium. You don't need to be the exact opposite of Don Cherry about it. No one's saying that every hockey player should be a marauding viking set on nothing buy physical destruction of the other team, but at the same time, I don't want the NHL to use the IOC rules or the women's hockey rules, either.

His shots/game is drop is the alarming stat. He's barely getting 2/per now, when he used to be good for 3-5. Doesn't take a genius to realize that he's going to have a tough time scoring goals like he used to if he's not able to get volume on net... the above-avg SH% is definitely masking some of the decline in shots.

I think the scope of the discussion is who should be at Center on the 2nd line. And Raffl's production offensively is aprt of that discussion. And Read was brought in as a comparison to Raffl offensively. But it was a bad comparison due to the situations each player is in. If the Flyers wanted to play Matt Read on a scoring line, his offensive totals would go up.

Nope. Shooting percentage is irrelevant. He just picks his spots a little better now than he used to.

This is another situation where both the injury and playing out of position have to be taken into account. What has happened to his shot totals since being moved back to Center?

As would Raffl's, or anybody's. That was my only point. If you play more minutes and play with better players, your offensive production will most likely increase.

He seemed to open the ice up significantly for the third line. Which I think downie was doing as well. I think raffl makes the third line too soft, but fits in well with two hard checkers like schenn and Simmonds.

Perhaps the more telling thing is that the best the Flyers have to ice a fourth line is Rinaldo, Downie, VDV or McGinn who has struggled.

Throw in a center on to that line making 4.5 million/season.

But hey, cap management and Paul Holmgren are non issues.

Which polished turd gets their chance now?

- flyer_nutter

JSAQ brought up Berube being a player/coach yesterday.

Might be the best option! Hmmmmm... The cap ramifications......

But Raffl's wouldn't?

I think if you were comparing Raffl to any player on the Flyers, Read is, by far, the best comp.
