NHL.com is useless for that.

There was a delayed penalty on the Rosehill hit on Liewen but the Sabres scored on the delay. The commentators mentioned that Liewen was still down and shaken up just before they scored. Buffalo reports he has a concussion from the hit.

- Scoob

Yeah, there's no replay, but there was a delayed call on Rosehill for interference. Liewen has a hostory with concussions, which is rough for him.

Well, true, but again, if they sign Subban, they're not going to need Timonen.

I'd rather they avoid an OS. I hate giving up the picks, it makes the cap situation a mess and it hampers other needed moves.

- Jsaquella

They do have assets I believe the Habs would covet in a trade. It would be crazy, steep price to pay, but I can see the Flyers in the bidding war.

In the end, I believe Kimmo comes back for another year.

What other big free agent tenders were out there? Snider may not have mentioned Bryzgalov by name, but it was implied. Sniders public statement meant one thing. Holmgren, go out and get me the best goaltender available. Pretty cut and dry.
- PLindbergh31

You could also trade for a Goalie to fix the goaltending. There are many options available to fill a need.

It's good to have the resources. Of course, I doubt they would have signed him in the first place without those resources.
- Jsaquella

No doubt about it. GM's in big markets have more pressure to succeed, but they also are afforded more mistakes.

IMO people are getting carried away with Rinaldo. At least one of the 3 penalties called against him was borderline. The hit was dumb because of the timing, but was it really that bad. Sure suspend him make an example see, bad hit hit the head suspension. Fine what ever. The guy was leaning over and there was no way at that speed he could have stopped himself. The Sabre's players head was at shoulder height. For me the worst part was his leaving his feet. There have been much worse hits that have gone unpunished.

Also to say Rinaldo is a fourth line players, so he really shouldn't have a huge impact on this team. Well don't blame him, blame the top guys for not showing up every game. The few games he has been the guy playing the hardest shift after shift. Give me a team full of guys that play like that every shift. He needs to learn to control himself better. Come playoff time, he will really need to watch himself.

Yes it was stupid, but the Flyers need him out there. They are a better and harder team to play against.

- LJF

Are you his dad?

Seriously, we see him very differently. That hit was way over the line. He's a liability. He can't be trusted to not cross the line. He's demonstrated that time and time again.

I'd be OK with another 1 year deal. He's been arguably their best defenseman, yet again and at worse he's second.

I'm aware of all the numbers. They will have Cap space to use. If the Cap goes up to 68M, every team gets an extra 6.8M to use on July 1.

I agree that when he's playing well he is an effective player for the Flyers.

- MJL

Trouble is that he can't be trusted. They can easily find someone else to fill that role who isn't a liability.

So are you denying that trading for a player is an available option for a team looking to fill a need?

How did the Flyers get their current starting goaltender?

I hear you. I like Rinaldo, and it's a shame that one bad play, or one bad game, erodes weeks of solid play. But that's the way it is.

It means that money needs to be cut out some where. Either Vinny Schenn Schenn or Grossman.

I would rather go year to year with Kimmo over multi-year deal with Boyle or Markov.

I think I have the same thoughts on Holmgren as you do. He's done some very good things, and he's missed on some things. I think he deserves credit for taking over a dreadful team his first year, and getting things turned around quickly.

Say the Flyers make the playoffs, and are eliminated in the first round, I would be ok with Holmgren coming back, and I would be ok with Hextall replacing him. I guess that's riding the fence, but I think it would be fair either way.

It's funny...early in the game I thought to myself, "gee, Scoob, it's a shame that guy doesn't have all his marbles because does have some valuable hockey skills." After the hit I'm back to "get rid of him...someone else can do the job without being a liability."

Yeah, he's walking a tightrope every night... get the angle of a hit slightly wrong, like he did w/ Ruhwedel, and it's a potential major against the Flyers.

I personally feel that anyone hoping that Holmgren is going to get canned, is in for a disappointment. Regardless of what happens this Season.

Ummm... Mason was a reclamation project that has worked out to this point. If the GM mandates a top player at a position be brought in, the easiest way to get said players is to throw a ton of cash at a Free Agent. We all know players have to be available. If it was as easy as trading for a top player to fill a need, the Flyers would have had a # 1 defenseman to replace Pronger by now.

26. Zac Rinaldo's situation in Philly reminds me of Ben Eager's in San Jose's. You may remember Eager took a major penalty against Vancouver in the 2011 Western Conference Final and the Canucks made the Sharks pay. Eager begged to go back into the lineup to make amends, but Todd McLellan wouldn't do it. He couldn't take the chance. Rinaldo can be a useful player, but is he at the point where the Flyers can't take the chance?

Ummm.... Mason is the team's starting goaltender, who has had a strong year. And he was acquired in a trade. Free Agency may be the easiest way, but it's not the only way to acquire a player, or a starting goaltender. So the statement that Bryzgalov was pretty much the only route available, is simply false.
