A shame -- not that Cooper doesn't deserve everything he gets, because I really like how the Lightning play

Remember that presser when Laviolette got the shiv, the "Culture War"? One of the most hostile environments I've seen for that sort of thing -- Chief didn't even get his own training camp

- AllInForFlyers

No, he didn't. I'm not knocking Berube. He's done a very good job, even if I have not agreed with some of his decisions...they've worked out by and large

Therrien has done a good job, as well, although he gets questioned by many fans and media over his handling of Subban
- Jsaquella

What's the issue with Subban? Is he not getting enough ice time?

Oh, I know. You're supportive -- I think we're all fairly surprised this appears to be a 90-plus point team, after starting 1-7 and that 7-0 humiliation to the Caps

I didn't even think it was knee-jerking to look at that start and questioning every single thing I thought I knew about this franchise

It's been all over the place. Had a game last week where he was sixth in ice time, behind rookie Jared Tinordi. Therrien is really holding Subban's feet to the fire, want him to be more of a two way guy and do it consistently.

I swear I thought that team was going to tune out Therrien and while I respect Carey Price a great deal, I honestly did not know Max Pacioretty was a 40-goal winger

Those boys might actually be a tough out in the playoffs, if Price gets hot

- AllInForFlyers

Pacioretty is a stud. They give the Bruins fits. I want to see that series.

I disagreed with the Culture stuff, I don't always agree with the team, but they have had a lot of success over the years, and they're not the Broad Street Bullies any longer.

I think it was Tomahawk who posted a really good story from the Montreal Gazette that basically says that Subban's a better player when you limit his minutes to 18 or so...and that makes it a real problem when it comes time to negotiate his next deal this offseason, considering his Norris Trophy from last year is probably still shiny

Subban is supremely talented, his issues are between his ears. If Therrien doesn't like what he sees, good for him holding Subban accountable. Not sure why the fans or media would take him to task, it's about wins and losses. Montreal has played well all year.

Yeah, he's immature and needs to grow up. I have no issue with holding guys accountable, at all.

I do worry about the long term issues, because Therrien had issues with bad relationships with star players in the past, with the Pens

So Bryzgalov was all Holmgren huh? Great signing.
- PLindbergh31

I think the mandate to get a goaltender was Snider's, but I really don't believe he pushed Homer to sign Bryz specifically.

Settling on Bryz, ignoring the warning signs with his character and big-game flakiness, and misjudging the goalie market that summer is all on management and the pro scouts.

brutal - at least he appears to have acquired yellow lacquer in this pic.

Yes he did. He wore out his welcome in Pittsburgh for sure. He comes across as a guy who isn't a players coach, and as somewhat a taskmaster. That kind of style usually has a shelf life.

I think that Holmgren's made mistakes and done good things. I don't know if Hextall would be better or if any of the other available guys would be better.

They made a few mistakes in rapid succession. The Bryz deal, which forced the Bob deal. The JvR for Schenn deal thus far looks bad, and I doubt it will end up as a "win" for the Flyers in the future, even if Schenn solidifies into a reliable 2nd pair guy.

But unearthing gems like Read & Raffl, landing a solid starter in Mason for cheap, the returns for Carter and Richards do mitigate the mistakes.

I think that's fair. Snider publicly making the infamous "never again" quote was so dumb on many levels. From a negotiating stand point to start. Flyers by in large were bidding against themselves.

Real old-school hard ass... uses playing time like a cudgel. He's been beating Subban with it for the entire season, going as far as benching him 3rd-periods and late-game situations.

Here's the article that AllIn was talking about above... basically a run-down of the situation and how it might impact what they choose to do with him:

The thing about it is Vanek just makes their forward corps look totally different

I realize he's probably not staying, but they really are dangerous right now, because their defense is pretty skilled and mobile and with Vanek...he helps balance that offense

It does. Some guys with that rep can change-look at Hitchcock. But with Subban as a RFA, got to wonder how it impacts contract talks

He does make good moves and has pulled a few rabbits out of his hat... which makes it all the more frustrating to watch him constantly having to scramble to dig himself out of self-made holes both big and small.

I'm just not feeling a strong forward momentum from his stewardship... it sometimes feels like the franchise has gone through a 20-year cycle of ups and downs in a 5-year period.

Doubt it.

The Snider/Homer RFA offersheet is a real possibility though, if they try to be stingy w/ him.

I can't imagine Subban likes playing for Therrien. It will be interested to see what happens. Wonder if Montreal would let offer sheets roll in for him and just take the picks.

There's really only been one self made hole. And that was the Bryzgalov signing. What are the other holes?
