I think this myth can be debunked. At the last 3 drafts the flyers have drafted in the 1st 3 rounds all but once (in 2011)... And all those players that were drafted are all in the system still.

2011 (1) Couturier
2011 (3) Cousins
2012 (1) Laughton
2012 (2) Stolarz
2012 (3) Gostisbehere
2013 (1) Morin
2013 (2) Hagg
2013 (3) Goulboure

Do you see a pattern here, nothing beyond the 3rd round and they've went a long time without hitting on a 2nd rounder.

well, they did trade for kim johnsson who was the very last player drafted in 1994. so there's that.

The last 3 seasons they've also drafted 4 4th rounders, 2 5th rounders, 2 6th rounders, and 3 7th. I just didn't note that. In 2014 they currently have a 1,2,3,5,6,7 round pick.... and iirc that 3rd could be a 2nd if mez resigns in Boston.

I just don't see how anyone could say the flyers are STILL "trading away their draft picks like they are the latest drug on the market ". I think homer has done a nice job of refilling the cupboards and being patient with the youth movement (giroux, Jake, simmonds, b schenn, coots). Really the only move that still aggrivates me is moving jvr for Luke... Not that I dislike Luke so much as I really think jvr will be special and would have loved seeing him on Roo's line.

despite what i just posted to mjl, now this i disagree with. they've had teams capable of winning it all...only to be decimated by injuries to key players while facing dynasty/juggernauts in the finals. that's bad luck.

starting with the full on rebuild in the early 90s centered around lindros, they never quite put together a complete team - and if not for injuries/drama i think they would have won in 00 and 04. they were an OT goal away from a SC game 7. it' s clear they've had teams good enough to win but they just haven't.

have they had powerhouse dynasty teams like the habs, isles, and oilers and most recently the red wings? no.

- hammarby31

Still, no cups. They've gotten chances but always failed.

Can't claim they've had championship teams with no championships.

That was the point I was making. They've had good teams and bad luck. We will never know what if though.

Winning a championship and being championship caliber are two completely separate things

they did. tough to put 86 in there. sure they still pretty much ran the table after pelle died, but had little left in tank. froese was not going to get it done. if pelle lived, there's a good chance they win it all, even with a rookie roy in the way. stupid management. how dare they not have a lindbergh clone backing him up just in case he died.

Oh of course. To me that doesn't mean they're a championship team. Gotta win it. Can't say they've built. Championship teams if they haven't won it.

Adding caliber would be barely credible depending on the person's definition of caliber.

Was painful when the list was posted.

Even if I give you 86, that's almost 30 years. Not exactly making the case

but they all provided a level of satisfaction.

it just isnt possible to have one team win on a consistent basis and have a league thrive.
thtat said, from a completely selfish large market view, we are due.

I think we are missing something imporatant, t maybe just the beer clouding me.

we have had a good run since the early lindros years, and even then, we got to watch E and brindy,

toronto, montereal and all the "new" teams would love to have our last 20 years, dingle berries and no cups and all.

Best record in the NHL before his death. They were still championship caliber as constructed.
