There's more to this than just making the playoffs. I want a cup.
- Flyersgod

Do you realize how spoiled you sound? This franchise just delivered a Cup when Jaws was in movie theatres.

Don't you understand, it's a 40+ year process.

In the meantime, this will have to suffice!

Well it's a process. And this team has a lot of young players. It is headed in the right direction.
- MJL

I don't see it. I see the same issues from the last rebuild. Coots, Giroux, Simmonds, and Voracek is the core. What else is there? No real forward prospects outside of another center. Hartnell slowing down.

get this, I just looked up Downie's game log and compared it to the game results for the flyers and I got 33-13-6 with him IN the lineup versus 6-13-6 without him

That's def a weird stat.

The team is hot/cold all year.

They are a first round out except of they play Pittsburgh

They are who we thought they were all along

We all knew this wasn't a Cup year, let's all relax.

Oh well. I'm excited for 4 more years of vinny.

Raffl is not a solid prospect? Hartnell is still a good player. And I know that unless Brayden Schenn just lights it up, he'll just continue to be a bum.

I'm going to continue to support him to infuriate his haters. Give him better wingers and he can put up 60 points.

The Flyers average 2.75 goals a game compared to the 2.44 goals a game that NJ averages. Which is a significant average. And after the poor start to the Season, the Flyers were averaging well over 3 goals a game. Which would put them in the tops in the League. But they've been slumping offensively the last few games. It will turn around.

No matter how you spin, manipulate, or try to extract different meanings from different stats, the fact of the matter remains true.

24 more goals than New Jersey. PERIOD.

The team needs more scoring on the wing. Get rid of vinny and roll with your young centers. Prob not going to happen

I did not in any way dispute that the Flyers have scored 24 more goals then NJ has.

The Flyers have plenty of scoring. If anything they need to find consistency in their game. That is this team's issue.

At the end of the day I want whats best for the Flyers. The players I'm not really concerned about. If they get rid of Vinny, fine. But they damn well better realize that having 14 centers and no wingers doesn't work. You can't force veterans in the league to switch positions and play at the same level they played before.

Schenn has shown nothing to prove he's worthy of being on the second line. It doesn't help his development to fail on the second line. I'm unimpressed with the Schenn family thus far.

Read is down in points from his career high of 46 pts in 79 games. Unlikely he'll get over 40 points for this season. Which is extremely disappointing for a player of his skill level.

Coots is having his best offensive season. I wish it was better, but his dedication to the other side of the puck has been amazing.

Meh.. I've got nothing left in the tank. So tired of talking about the players. I just want some players who want to win at all costs.

Give me a Lappy blocking shots with his face any day of the week over this crap.

Do you know how rare it is to have a 3rd line Winger, who matches up with other teams top lines on a regular basis, and is a mainstay on the PK, score 20 goals and 40 points or better? If Matt Read was relieved of those checking duties, and played on a top scoring line with other top offensive players, how many points might he score in that situation? All about perspective. Labeling Matt Read disappointing on any level is puzzling.

During even strength play... The Flyers have 3 players in the top 100 in the league.

Giroux is 21st with 45 even strength points.
Voracek is 60th with 36 even strength points.
Simmonds 77th with 33 even strength points.

That's it. Just those three. If our powerplay gets shut down, we're dead.

His production is down. That's disappointing.

Goals scored on the PP count the same at goals scored at ES. Goals scored are goals scored. Flyers have the deepest corps of forwards offensively in the NHL.

I look at the entire picture. And don't eliminate something to suit my premise.

Put it in perspective. How many players in the top 100 do other teams have?

That may be true but come playoff time, you are only going to get so many chances to score on the powerplay. If you are not a good 5 on 5 team, you aren't getting very far.

Of the offensive young talents, lets reappraise how they have fared relative to last year.

Baby Schenn: last year 26 pts in 47 games this year 39 points in 77 games. Verdict: slight down
Simmonds: last year 32 pts in 45 games this year 56 points in 77 games Verdict: about same
Couturier: 15 pts in 46 games last year this year 36 points in 77. Verdict: up
Read: 24 points in 42 games last year now 36 points in 70. Verdict slight down
Voracek: 46 points in 48 games last year this year 56 points in 77 games. Verdict sharp down

I know they sent more forwards in forecheck last year and forwards rarely backchecked, but at the same time, we have better team defense this year and less time pinned in our zone so that should cancel out.
And what overall this portrays is not much improvement. I know its early days yet and they are young and its just 2 years, but its still disappointing that not a single player emerged as a genuine threat nor did any line establish any degree of consistent pressure outside the Giroux line.

That's true. The Flyers are inconsistent, but they have shown that they can be a very strong 5 on 5 team. And isn't that what's really going to matter? How they play when the playoffs start?
