Hate everything new.
The old stuff was better.

- jmatchett383

It's not so much about new vs old... it's about youth energy and rebellion.

Whatever spirit that rock n roll used to have, EDM has stolen it.

Then listen to punk rock or, better yet, hardcore. You want youth energy and rebellion, there ya go.

Nope. They just have amazing musicians and most of their songs are quite a bit longer than the cookie-cutter 3 minutes most bands are putting out, so that probably makes it seem lighter on lyrics.

I'm relatively sure you're not familiar with my music, and trust me, most people in my life has ridiculed my musical taste (rightfully so). I just find the fact that we adore and idolize these drug addict womanizers because they were good at playing guitar to be faulty.
- jmatchett383

We adore them because they produced incredible music. That's why.

So true

I remember hearing a talk at college by some dbag writer from Rolling Stone. I asked him why does your mag always poop on bands like Queen, Rush and Yes, is it cause you wannabe musicians are just jealous of their musical and vocal talent?

His response was to tell me to go frank myself.

Led Zeppeling gets labelled "amazing" because they were "innovative." The 2 do not go hand in hand. They were a good band.

As for innovation, The Ramones, Minor Threat, and Michael Jackson were 10x as innovative as any band since The Beatles.

Led Zeppelin wasn't all that innovative though. They were mostly just ripping off old blues songs, just like the Rolling Stones. All four being irregularly talented is what makes them amazing... and I'll definitely have to disagree with you for once... they are amazing.
- ThirdEye

Didn't you hear? They created heavy metal.

As for irregularly talented, that may be. But if you can tell me with a straight face that Led Zeppelin 1 doesn't have some of the most apparent flaws of any rock studio album of all time, then we're pretty much at an impasse. Not the sign of "irregularly talented" if you can't even recognize your own mistakes.

I dunno if you play guitar or not. But, Led Zeppelin is amazing because they are amazing. The timing of their music is impossible unless you are very well trained. The vocals are one of a kind and hit incredible ranges and the drummer was well above the talent of drummers at that time (although he was nothing spectacular compared to the stuff drummers can do nowadays).

See, I can't do that. Just like when Carry On wrote a bunch of songs about being straight edge, and then their singer started to do coke on their last tour. Just killed it for me. I can't get behind a poop lifestyle just because you can write a good song.

I'm not saying he *should* go. I'm just saying that they'd do fine without him. I don't think it matters though, because at this same pace, they'll be in their late 50s - early 60s by the time yet another album came out. I don't know if I want to hear from them at that age. I hope they go out on top. Hard for me to say that with them being one of my absolute favorite bands ever... but I don't want to see them dwindle into garbage.

PS, any Kyuss fans here? If you like metal and things that aren't garbage, check them out.

- ThirdEye

Kyuss was the bomb.

And agreed about the retire on top. Tool is my top3 band also.

Man, you and I are on the same page. I've recently started getting the baby to bed with Disposition (this is the same baby who thinks A-Train by the Delta Rhythm Boys is the greatest song he's ever heard).

At a show I saw in Phoenix, someone hit Maynardo with a bottle. He stormed off stage while they played 46&2... I actually didn't even notice he was gone until he came back in the middle of the next song.

I apologize for helping to derail the hell out of this thread.

- ThirdEye

Yup. Disposition is one of my go-to tunes when I can't find anything else to listen to. I'm digging that you're using it as a lullaby. I'm definitely going to give that a go after my wife gives birth later this summer.

I saw them in Camden and toward the end of the show it started raining and they closed with another of my favorite tunes, Aenema. Learn to swim, learn to swim...

It isn't without flaws, but I'm not sure what you mean. Can you elaborate? That whole heavy metal thing is just bizarre, I totally agree.

Well put. Jimmy Page's solo on You Shook Me is all you really need to hear to know what makes Led Zeppelin amazing.

I don't play guitar. And I don't like a band because their music is "hard to play." If that's the bar, then Dream Theater is the best band ever. To me, it's more about writing songs that I enjoy and that convey a meaningful message at the same time.
