Who would've thought Paul Martin would be our savior. 2 seasons ago we wanted to burn him alive. Now that we cliched the division I'd sit 3,2,44,87,18,14 ,36,29 for the next 3 |

I don't think the Pens have the cap space to bring up enough players to cover for those guys. |

They also don't have enough call-ups. I'm pretty sure they're limited in their number of call-ups post-deadline. |

Everytime I watch Winnipeg play, I shake my head. There is some pretty good talent on that roster. Trouba, Enstrom, Bogo are pretty good Dmen and Montoya is a solid backup goalie. They aren't that far off. - Oneonta Penguin
Yeah I watched this team when I was in ATL. They really aren't that far off, but they play so bad. I think Kane is a locker room cancer, dude just comes off as a DBAG. I don't think moving to Winnipeg was a very wise NHL decision. It will be interesting to see what happens to their top talent over the next few yrs. With the Canadian dollar going down I just see this team struggling. |

People call him a very good coach, but he got canned for leading an under achieving Philly team. Ask Flyer fans - they have many of the same gripes as we have with Bylsma. - Oneonta Penguin
Underperforming is one thing (0-3 after missing the playoffs), but his inability to adapt his system was really his downfall. He runs an aggressive puck pressure system, heavy on the forecheck and preferring defensemen pinch more often. We didn't have the mobility/puck movement on defense to sustain that (especially as Pronger, and eventually Carle moved off our blueline). He also didn't seem to trust our young players (a familiar gripe, for sure) as much as we needed, given where our team is.
Maybe he'd be a fit in Pitt, not sure. You guys do have a lot more in the ways of puck movement on the back end. |

Thank you for this post. People always think there is better out there. As you pointed out, there is a reason why he was fired by the Flyers and some of it is the same gripes we have here.

I cringe everytime someone brings up E. Kane as a target for the Pens. He is a Dbag. He is very inmature and won't ever fulfill his true promise until he works on that. He might be one of the more overrated players in the NHL to me.
Forwards - Wheeler, Ladd, Little, Kane, Scheiffle, Jokinen, Seto, Frolik, Buff if you now call him a forward
Defense - Bogosian, Trouba, Enstrom, Stuart isn't a bad four
Goalie - Pavelec is inconsistent, but Montoya is more than a capable backup.
Its not a back roster
As for the Atlanta comment. No one cared about hockey in Atlanta. People are crazy about hockey in Winnipeg. They need to start turning things around soon though. |

PPL actually did care about hockey in ATL, nobody in the metro is from the south, a lot of mid western/NE transplansplants. The problem is the rink was downtown and a pain to get to mid week and downtown ATL is not a good place to be after dark. ATL has 10x more corporate sponsors than the PEG ever will, and 10x the population. Its the same reason the Braves and Falcons are moving their stadiums out of downtown. The ppl with $$$ all live outside the loop. That and a GM that poorly managed the team.

Good points! Atlanta highways are either a parking lot or a spitting image of Talladega. Every time we leave for Tampa/St. Pete its at 3 in the morning.
On the hockey side of Atlanta, the youth programs are very good. |

You cant really expect many ppl to commute 30-45 mins after work, grab the kids drive back another 30-45 mins watch a game then repeat. The Braves are a storied BBL franchise yet they cant sell out playoff games.
Pitt is an easy commuter city to live in. |
