Not having Bobrovsky or JVR is not why they lost last nights game. Nor was it a lack of foot speed. That is not the weakness of this Flyers team. What is a weakness is not competing to the full extent that they can. They were flat in the 3rd period. Who the hell knows why, but they were,

Bob was very good last night and if someone said he was the difference in the game it would be easy to agree. Tocchet thought Mase could have stopped the first goal, thought he was leaning too much to the post. Personally I'm not sure, it looked like a great play by Wis there.

The Flyers were not sharp. Passes were off, pucks were bouncing off sticks.
PP has become crucial and is now cold.

Missing Downie has been part of the recent problem.
Read has to play a more physical grinding boards game with Downie out.

Overall the recent losses have come against very stout goaltending.

Quick, lundqvist, Rask , Miller in StL, and Bob last night.
Flyers can beat these guys when they are at the top of their game, but they haven't been. Maybe mentally tired. It's been a brutal stretch.

To me they didn't play bad...they looked a bit tired. Understandable after the schedule they have played.

I don't think the Flyers had a lot of high quality chances last night. And when a Goalie has clear sight lines, he's able to make the saves and control rebounds. Flyers need to get more traffic and pucks to the net, and try and get some rebound situations. I think Bobrovsky played well and made all the stops he needed to make. But I don't think he's the reason why the Flyers lost.

If we can equate the Flyers play to poker. The FLyers have a clear "tell". Simply watch puck battles and see if they are outnumbered on the puck? See if Flyers are left alone without support to battle against the opposition outnumbered. I saw numerous times last night, when the Flyers were on the PP, and they were outnumbered on puck retrievals by the shorthanded Blue Jackets! That can't happen. That's what the game came down to. Not Bobrovsky and some inpenetrable force field he has up. Flyers simply didn't do what it takes to score goals. And hate to say it, but the Captain again had a subpar game. He has to be better.

Lot's of Hockey left if they're going to go on a run in the playoffs. Not the time to be tired. Coming out flat in the 3rd period in a big game is inexcusable.

Agree with this, overall they were outplayed by CBJ for large parts of the game.
I think they are an underrated team.
Their young #1 center is going to be a star.
They have a lot of size with their forwards and made life tough on the Flyers.

I don't love their D but they did a solid job last night.

Also think Bob was very good, maybe not the toughest game for him as you point out but there were a few deflections and good chances. A lot of the best chances seemed to go right into Bob, but he gets into position and goes side to side as well as any goalie in the league.

Man, I wish I watched the same game as you then.

Flyers were brutal. Couldn't connect on passes, didn't have their sticks on the ice, overskated on many plays. They looked not only slow, but completely out of sync. I'm with you in the sense that they've played a very hard schedule recently, but if there was ever a trap game it was last night.

I think they wake up tomorrow against the Bruins. If we can get at least a point, I'm fine with it. We can't be throwing away points though.

Also, everyone says Bob played great last night? He barely worked. Sure the Flyers had 27 shots or so, but they were never really any high percent shots.

I think they had 37 shots. I agree with you though. Very little net front presence from anyone. I don't remember any 10 bell saves being made.

The team definitely looked sluggish. Its almost like they expected this game to be a cakewalk after tying Boston and St. Louis for 130 minutes.

It wasn't a trap game. This team has shown over the course of the season that it needs quality practice time to stay sharp and reload if you will. Particularly the special teams units. I think they'll make the playoffs but limp to the end. Hopefully they will have some days off prior to the playoffs to work on a few things system wise and PP wise.

They've played about 80 games so far this Season. It's not about practice. If they need more practice at this point, they're in trouble. They just didn't skate well enough in the 3rd period, and they lost too many battles for pucks, and they didn't execute on the PP. And thier best players, weren't thier best players

You've been able to say that entirely too many times this season.

We know what happens to this team when that's the case. The slack rarely gets picked up.
