you're missing my point, you wanna hit like that (clean or dirty or whatever) then (frank)ing you better be ready to fight

he could have erased towes without trying to light him up, but that's not how he plays, until someone on the other teams wants to hold him accountable then he cowers behind "i don't like fighting" bullsh*t, sorry numb-nuts, you can't have it both ways

- Flyfreaky

I think I can sum up your position for you.

"I LIKE HOCKEY FIGHTS BUT NOT BIG HITS THAT ARE CLEAN. AND EVEN THOUGH THEY ARE CLEAN AND LEGAL THEY SHOULD BE PUNISHED. AND IF YOU WANT TO PLAY WITHIN THE RULES, YOU SHOULD HAVE TO FIGHT! FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT. RAWR".

How did I do?

The fact about the hit is...it happened, and it was legal. Would anyone team like one of their players being nailed like that? Heck no.

But the league thought it was ok, and apparently the Blackhawks had no objection with it. And if you watch the replays, Brooks Orpik does not come from orbiting the earth to hit Towes at 5000 mph only to fly 100 feet off his skates like some would say happened.

So to those who think it was a dirty hit, or to the really clueless (ala Milbury) who think someone should have to fight after a clean hit, I have this quote for you.

i don't care if they get rid of fighting, but as long as it's a part of the game if you wanna play like orpik than you better back it up with your fists
- Flyfreaky

see are you saying that after Giroux lit up Crosby in Game 6 in 2012 that he should have been forced to fight someone like Asham?

He put his head down because the puck was in his skates. And then kicked it away before Orpik hit him. Did he ever really possess the puck?

What is PUCK POSSESSION? Having it in your skates? Bounce off your ass? I thought possession the puck was controlling it. I don't think Toews ever controlled it. This is not new for Orpik...see his hits on Skinner, Erickson. Neither player ever had control of the puck. In one case the player was near it, in the other case he was reaching for it...and blam Orpik nails the guys. If you are skating around CONTROLLING the puck then taking a hit should be expected, but Orpik is nailing these guys who simply do NOT have control of the puck. Sure, they are close to possessing it, but aren't. Lou Erickson NEVER had the puck on that hit...Orpik's hit on Erik Cole was disgraceful and is further evidence that Orpik is not out there trying to change who possesses the puck, but rather he's just out there to hit people for poopz and giggles.

A good hard check is a great way to build momentum and in it's purest state to eliminate the opposing team from having control of the puck and ideally turning that control over to your team. The list of Orpik hits that do not meet that criteria is long and growing.

As far as him not fighting...if you're going to play borderline dirty hockey and put players into the hospital then be man enough to answer the bell. Even low-lifes like Raffi Torres actually honor that code, but Orpik and James Neal do not. Thus, it stands to reason MANY hockey fans with no dog in this fight will dislike them for the careless and classless way they play hockey.

Good points...but saying his wasn't controlling the puck I don't agree with. He passed the puck immediately prior to the hit. Passed it. On his backhand. Must have possession of the puck to pass it no?

that was pretty damn loud

as i've said quite a bit, i don't care if they get rid of fighting, but as long as it's a part of the game and you want to hit like a freight train then you better not shy away from fighting like that orpik jackass does

so what youre telling me is that youre completely okay with your captain and best player fighting, risking a broken hand or some other injury and having to sit down for 5 minutes, just because he laid a 100% legal hit?

alright fine, next time we play in a playoff series, I want Giroux to lay someone out and then fight glass. he could do that every game.

what a joke.

it's easy to call someone a b!tch for not fighting when you're sitting at your computer.

I have a bigger problem with Neal, who shouldn't be in the NHL, than with Orpik. I also have a problem with the Hawks not standing up for their captain, whether it was a clean hit or not, you stand up for your teammate when they get run over like that.

- Hemingways

Clean hit or not?! So if it's a clean hit, what? The player should have to drop the gloves? That is exactly why the NHL is so wussified. I don't condone cheap shots, but what's wrong with a good hard clean hit? No reason a guy should have to drop the gloves because he throws a clean, hard legal hit. That's the game man.

I live here now and Pittsburgh people are really pretty cool. But like all fans they will see things through black and gold colored glasses. I have no issue with any group of fans (esp, Pittsburgh)....but I do not like Brooks Orpik at all
- kwolf68

Never said all people from the burgh are aholes. Have lots of friends from there and its a cool small city. Point was all cities have fans that have differing view points and there share of homers. Especially a place like Pittsburgh where the city seems to breathe black and gold.

Guys that like to pull that poop deserve to get freight trained. Guys like the Burroughs and the Marchands who try to bait a guy to drop 'em and then proceed to skate away or let someone else step in for him. Hate that poop, and I've seen Orpik pull that poop too.

alright this is the last time i'm saying this

the fact that orpik states that he won't fight yet plays the way he does is the focus of my wrath

if there are more players that play that style of hockey and refuse to fight, then i'll feel the same about them as well

that's so damn cowardly

You do realize that Orpik fought in the very next game those two teams played right? I guess that wouldn't suit your argument too well that he doesn't answer the bell. No reason to fight when the hit is legal.

So Orpik's hits list is long and growing? I guess that would mean his suspensions are too right? Oh, no they aren't because they are within the rules. If you want to cry some more about anyone touching your player go watch another sport.
