Yay. A three thumbs up for assault! Guess that's about right for a man brave enough to call for a mans wife to leave him over an internet chat board. You seem to be the kind of man who watches NASCAR to watch people get hurt or die in car crashes. Gee what fun!

If you don't like it go watch one of the main stream sports then.....basketball, baseball, watered down football of coarse there is soccer. Pretty soon we will be watching figure skating and tap dancing.
Go ruin someone else's sport, heck well over 90% of players want to keep fighting.

And case and point, he doesn't get a penalty on another boarder line hit errickson - concussion, Toews - ?, Cooke hit on savards head - career over, ........
All this talk about penalizing hits that hurt players and hmmmmm, how is that going?

So the new talent is, hitting a player with a borderline hit, but within the rules so that they are injured. AND THEN NOT HAVING TO GET PENALIZED BY THE LEAGUE OR FACE THE CONSEQUENCES OF YOUR ACTIONS TO OTHER PLAYERS.

Great great plan.

That is why they call it "by the rules". So any legal play that results in injury should get you in trouble with the league? Do you realize how ridiculous that sounds?

"If you don't like it the giittt out!" Nah, I'd rather lend my voice to those that want the league to continue to grow and change into the sport it should be. The orpik hit was borderline. The other stuff, I.e. some of the malarky Neal has done, should be massively punished by the league in both suspensions and fines to teams that play the players. That is how we will get this stupid stupid fighting crap out of the league.

you're missing my point, you wanna hit like that (clean or dirty or whatever) then (frank)ing you better be ready to fight

he could have erased towes without trying to light him up, but that's not how he plays, until someone on the other teams wants to hold him accountable then he cowers behind "i don't like fighting" bullsh*t, sorry numb-nuts, you can't have it both ways

My favorite part of hockey is the scrums in front of the net after a scoring chance. "You just got a shot on my goalie so I'm going to call you a poopy head and push you, grr."

It's like grow the hell up and play the game. I get the pushing and shoving for position, but the crap that happens well after the whistle is just stupid. They got to take the crybaby stuff out of the game. It's really annoying.

You obviously can have it both ways, because that was a legal hit and he didn't fight anyone afterwards.

Hard to believe people have a rough time when a player throws a heavy, but legal as hell check. If this happened to Handzus, nothing would have been said. Go figure, same female doging crowd - Boston, Philly, Chicago fans ... go figure. Very typical.

The NHL players are at the pinnacle of their career. They make a huge amount if money. They were among the better players most likely at each level they played throughout their hockey playing days. What is their mindset when any teammate is checked viscously like Orpik did?

Apparently when you are gifted in your skills and you desire to continue making big dollars, all too many players feel entitled to special status. Let some other teammate answer the call for that hard check!

That should never be allowed as the mindset. What the heck is wrong with you. When the opportunity presents itself, check Orpik or their best player equally as viscous but clean. Yeah, payback is a b*tch but if you do not reciprocate you loose not only self respect, but now your opponent knows they can take advantage of you in game action. Which is intolerable.

Looking from the outside from a fan's perspective, how many of us play(ed) this game and would be really pissed if your teammates turtled? Just one check at an apprioiate time would suffice. Better yet is if you were on the team and you run Orpik or Crosby.

Try Murray, former captain and presently the Chg radio color commentator, was livid....the remainder of the game and in his lengthy post game comments.....he identified himself as "old school" and therefore a response was mandatory. Immediately.

Chg is just a soft team that played tough enough when absolutely necessary in the playoffs. I wouldn't be too popular with some teammates but I would mock and insult my teammates and coach if they did not agree a response was necessary. This is a shut door case. You are a man or P*ssy. Can't or won't respond. Go play recreation hockey with the ladies. You are a dusgrace .

It's bullpoop that a player that delivers a heavy, but legal check has to fight. Fact is, idiots can't see that Orpik let up at the end. If he didn't, Toews would have had to be scraped off the ice and carried to the lockerroom on a stretcher.

I don't remember Chicago player trying to engage Orpik in a fight. They came out and outplayed Pittsburgh for a great portion instead. Only the thugs from Boston and Philly would do that. That, is chicken poop.

as much as a hate the pens, this is more about orpik's mentality about the game and how he plays

if he's gonna hit like that then (frank)ing fight to back up that style of play

Whether you like Orpik or not, the hit was clean. This is not comparable to any of Matt Cooke's assaults on player's careers.

you're 100% wrong, if he lets up he can take out towes without injuring him

again, i have no problem with him hitting like a bulldozer, but with that comes fighting cause not everyone's gonna let that sh*t slide

Correct. Fighting or payback in the form of the same check against your team. Hockey is a game of taking advamtage of mistakes and or breakdowns as much as the skill involved. In life as in competitive sports the objective is to win. You are at a disadvantage when you give the other team an edge.

i'll give you a prime example of the point i'm trying to make

i hated scott stevens more than just about any player in the league, that dude was always out to injure with his hits (clean or dirty) and he wasn't a fighter by any stretch of the immagination

however, he always fought when the opposition called him out for his heavy hitting and i always respected that about him

he never played the "i don't like to fight" card like that orpik pus*y does

Mrs. Cleo has spoken. Getting Toews, Kane and Bickell (snort) back just in time for the playoffs, rested and ready to go won't be a bad thing. The Hawks still have one of the best and deepest teams in the NHL and are champions

SO...the Hawks are an absolute LEGIT shot to win the Cup again if

-they are healthy (may be)
-Crawford plays well (TBD on that one)

And the bounces go their way (which is true of ANY team).

Tell ya what...contrary to your talent of clairvoyance I think I'm gonna watch the games instead.

As far as the hit, I wouldn't have a major issue with this had it not been that dirty POS Orpik...he is building up quite a list of dirty/questionable/legal but ok hits, it's getting ridiculous.
