Where's this from? I agree with that statement since this team has no transition offense, but am curious since I didn't see it in the blog.

Why not try and take a stab at the Wings asst. coach, Tom Renney? Former Babcock minions have had some minor success.
- YzermanIsTheMan

I want Babcock.

I hope Torts and Gillis stay. It's perfect just as it is.
- EKolb13

I'll second this.

Are the rumours true that ownership made the call on hiring Torts (not that he deserves all the blame)?

Sounds like it. The rumor was that Gillis wanted to hire John Stevens and Aquillini wanted Torts.

Its been said/speculated by multiple writers here. I believe it. I bet Stevens was who Gillis wanted. Or possibly Gulutzan(remember that Torts did not know Gulutzan at all when he first got here, that was a Gillis hire).

Canucks cap situation for next year is looking pretty good (approx $10.5M in space) but they still need to resign Kassian, Santorelli and Tanev.

My guess is that they don't buyout Booth. I think that with his somewhat improved play of late and the fact he only has one year left on his deal they could find someone willing to take him in the offseason. At this point, if a team has the cap space (which plenty will) it's incredibly low risk.

Eakins will probably be available as well. There were a few hard ons in here last summer because of him

Gotta think he has some trade value(look at the ufa class), he hasn't been awful. But he is overpaid IMO.

I'd rather use it on Booth than not use it at all. Clear up the roster spot for a younger player, or if you plan on bringing back Santorelli(he can play wing as well).

Marc Crawford no joke at all lets score 7 every night and give up 6 team is built for offense

Add in Horvat and Jensen possibly Shinkaruk We will be great

- The_Kuze

Shinkaruk needs to play in the minors next year. Bringing him up would be a mistake after he missed so much time this year.

Gaunce and Fox likely both have a shot at making the team next year though. Should be some strong competition for a couple spots.

Did Tort's get a 5 year deal?
If so he's gonna be coaching at least all of next season.

I sure hope Gillis rolls the dice and gets a young forward in a trade with one of our D. Tanev or Edler are the obvious choices.

If this ownership actually cares about winning, they shouldn't be afraid to admit mistakes and pay up for them. TB bought out Lecavalier, why can't FA fire Torts and/or buyout Booth? I know it's millions of dollars and easy for me to say, but as an owner you should do what's best or the organization(your expensive asset).

Don't understand why they even gave Torts that many years, did he have multiple offers? Doubt it. 3 would have been fine, extend him later if he does that well. He's not exactly a long-term type of coach.

The handling of the D this year has been pretty awful, but there's always a market for D-men, especially ones with a cannon like his who make under $5M. Could easily trade him.

If Booth isn't bought out I doubt anyone will be.

I doubt Booth is bought out. Cap space is not an issue. Theres no Free agents worth spending on anymore.

Agreed. They also stand to lose WAY more money by keeping Torts on if he's unable to right the ship. Plus, if he were to get hired somewhere else they wouldn't be on the hook for the whole thing.
