I know, and trust me I know this team need some extra few more players to keep improving but is just concerning to see how the Oil top players have regress under this new Coaching staff. - AlEx_OiL
Yeah that's very true too. I'll be honest I wasn't a huge Krueger fan either but now I can see I liked him way better than Eakins. Cant believe they only gave Krueger half a season and then give this (frank) a whole year |

Agreed... Eakins doesn't have the stress that Ralph had though... Eakins doesn't to worry about coming up with game plans, or doing anything to aid in the development of his players, as is evident by his comments, actions and results this season. - laughs2907

that's pretty embarrassing
I think at the end of last season we saw that improvement was happening and that EDM could have a bright future as soon as they completed the transition. Don't see that anymore. Don't know when or if EDM'll ever turn the corner because they seem to never know what they're doing.
I'm not sure one could argue that this team is better, even on paper, than the team they had last season or in 2008-2009 which kind of makes the rebuild pointless.
EDM's got so many holes from the coaching staff to really the entire roster that I couldn't tell you if they'll be even a bubble team some time in the next 2 seasons. I remember laughing at CGY's sorry excuse for an organization at the end of the 2012 season, but it looks like they're in a better position than EDM is. |

If Eakins hadn't already got to coach a year id say give him a chance. He destroyed are PP and we have given up the most SH goals and lost are 7th place finish last year with this embarrassing 2nd last place. The players are to blame just as much but he is just awful. We haven't got better lately just are goalies have won us some games. |

Most time its the assistants that run those and they haven't changed. It boggles my mind what is wrong with this team. |

Yes but is the Coach that have the last word about what to do or improve the PP or PK specially if He sees that both are not working out with what ever the assistants are coaching,so the result is both Coach and assistants garbage. |

Depends what happens this off season with Calgary though. If Cammalleri signs that will help lots. Monahan could have a bad year in 2015. The main thing Calgary has over Edmonton is players will go there which is weird since Edmonton is 300kms away. Are young guns must be hated in the league if no players want to come here. |

You might be right. Sad to say, but we can all probably agree that we knew this would live and die by the core of Hall- Nuge- Ebs, Schultz, and to a lesser degree Gags and Yak. I agree that our defense sucks, the coach is poop, but I am far from certain that we haven't all bet on the wrong horses.
I also don't think it is possible to add enough key pieces to compliment that group over the next 3 summers, and I have zero interest in waiting that long to see if this core will be superstars or also-rans, beaten down from a near decade of losing.
If we're gonna get rid of the coach, we might as well get rid of the players as well and semi-start over. |

Huh? We targeted Ferrence, Gordon and Clarkson this past summer. 2 of them signed here. Did anyone else other than Clarkson tell the Oilers no? |

Calgary's got a great coach, a deep prospect pool (Baertschi, Gaudreau, Knight, Klimchuk, Granlund, Gillies, Reinhart, Poirier), a good amount of young talent on the team already (Monahan, Backlund, Brodie, Colborne), and a #1 Dman (Giordano).
I think we'll be looking back 3 years from now and saying that CGY is a rebuild done right. I also think we may be looking back 3 years from now and wondering what EDM was thinking, after guys like Hall want out of mismanaged EDM |

Edmonton and Calgary are very different. Calgary has a lot of young rich people and the city is built to cater to them. Edmonton is very blue collar. |

Tried signing Clutterbuck but he didn't want to either. Ferrence has family in EDM and gordon got a nice chunk of change. safe to say that almost any player if given a choice would pick anywhere over EDM |

If EDM starts over, I'm sure guys like Hall will want to get the hell out of dodge. He's going in to his 4th season in the NHL and 4th season without making the playoffs. I'm sure it'd wear on him (even more) if EDM were to miss for another 3-4 years (which may well happen) - TheNugeIsHuge
yeah Id think he would be long gone if that was the case |

...and that's the thing. Should we be proactive if this appears inevitable?
Seriously if we can turn Hall, Ebs, Gagner, Petry, J Schults into, say, 4 1st rounders, a couple quality prospects, a top pair D and a top 4 veteran D, could we not be better off in the long run? |
