I'd be suprised if Akeson would replace Read, who is a two way player and PKer. And Hartnell is a skill player.

Maybe, Hartsy's always been considered a power forward, though.

Maybe they feel he has little left, maybe it's what he's looking for in any deal...........or something else altogether
- ob18

They're probably waiting till he's over 35 before signing him to a contract.

Article on Gagne from February...

Really love this guy

http://articles.philly.co...gagne-bobby-clarke-trophy

Mentions he thinks about how if it was his fault and stuff... I bet these guys are so loyal that it feels like your wife is leaving you when things like this happens...

"All summer, the Philadelphia Flyers kept hinting that they wanted to offer me a new contract and I even told Robert Sauvé, my agent, not to negotiate with other teams," said Gagné. "We trusted them. We put all our eggs in one basket and we got caught. We never thought we'd be stuck in this situation at this time of the year..."

Gagné kept hoping to return with the Flyers up until recently. "When I heard [Tuesday] that they had given a contract to Dan Cleary, it was like a slap in the face. I'm disappointed. I knew that hockey was a business, but with all the positive discussions we had with the GM Paul Holmgren, I can't believe I'm not back with them."

I'm actually getting mad at Homer. I need to stop digging

He sums it up pretty well too. Even an appearance of a Bill tweet.

A long time ago I gave up on getting overly attached to the name on the back of the jersey.

A player regardless of what kind of player he is, still has to be good enough to play in the NHL. That's common sense.
You're making my point. If a player that is an offensive player, develops an all around game, his chances of making the NHL are that much better.
And an offensive player that doesn't play well away from the puck, better be a top point prodeucer, or his chances of making it to the NHL full time, aren't that good. Which is probably why the chances for a player like Akeson to make it, arent that good. And it's why they decided to send Akeson to the ECHL a while back, to try and prod him in that direction.

- MJL

Once you get to the NHL, yeah, you'd better be able to play d unless you're scoring like Phil Kessel.

But to get a shot at all, you'd better be able to pile up points at the lower levels... because that's the only sure sign that you won't be out of your depth in the show. That's why nobody went sniffing around Raffl until he started to really exhibit some offense... there wasn't going to be interest in him if he was just a solid two way player in Allsvenskan. I suspect the same holds true for Rasmussen.

As did I. I just want them to win, but this is bad karma if true.

We have 17 centers and are crippled on the wing by losing Downie (who thought we'd ever say this?!).

I'm telling you, it's because Gags isn't over 35.

Of course. Management doesn't delve into things of this nature. By default they're the bad guys in all circumstances unless they disclose their side of the story.

Raffl drew interest from the Flyers because of his all around game. Because he can skate, and check, and play well defensively. I seriously doubt that his offensive game is what caught the Flyers eye. The value of Raffl, and why the Flyers took a chance on him is obvious. I saw it in him in Pre Season.

I'm trying to find a way to fit "IAMJOHNGALT" on a jersey without it looking like a slab of letters with no meaning....

When they can roll four lines effectively this team does much better. It's good to see Rinaldo playing on the edge and not going over. Earlier in the season he took a step to two backwards and was a problem for the team.
- LJF

Vinny had 13:32 TOI last night centering line 4

I picked a random game; vs St.L last week. Hall centering line 4 had 8:35 TOI and Vinny had 15:02 TOI on the wing.

He's a decent defensive forward. Could become excellent.

The odd man out to me is still B. Schenn.

Coots has developed extremely quick into a dominating defensive forward with a bad ass beard...

Giroux into a bad ass first line Center...

Simmonds into a hardnosed tough as steel, night training riding mother f'er winger...

Meanwhile, B. Schenn has developed into a guy who occasionally plays a physical game and attempts to take cheap shots from time to time while occasionally playing a good offensive game against smaller defensively weak teams.

We'll see. But the same pessimism was there on the tough schedule before the Olympic break. Although I do have to say that the way the Flyers played in the last 2 games is concerning.

5-4 if they can split with Boston, 4-5 if they get bounced both times

I always liked Washington's announcers. Jack Edwards, on the other hand, would do the world a great service by having his vocal chords severed.

I tried the Washington feed, but they don't have Joe Beninati today, and his replacement is BRUTAL
