To be fair, everyone on the Islanders looks pretty horrible.

Why do us flyer fans get such a bad rap?

Akeson is not the type of player that is going to play on the 4th line. He is a scoring line player.

Kinda like Vinnie?

He put up good numbers in junior and internationally... maybe he had a late growth spurt or something? Or maybe there's some key deficiency like skating that we don't know about?
- Tomahawk

Yeah. I don't know. It seems like the two-way guys have a better chance of making it with the Flyers than the offensively gifted players.

Well that's a different situation then projecting what a prospects role is going to be in the NHL, if he makes it. If Akeson is ever going to be considered for a 4th line depth role, he's going to have to vastly improve his play away from the puck.

As they should. It's every bit as important if not more to be effective in all zones.

When it comes to players who don't head straight to the NHL out of Junior Hockey level, two way players have a better chance of making it on every team. If a player is just an offensive player, who is only good with the puck, well then they better be a player that produce a high level of points at the NHL level, because they don't have any other value to an NHL team.

If your a one dimensional player you better be damn good at it or else you have no shot.

I agree. Thats why of all the Flyers free agents signings, the two-way guys end up working most often.

The non-NHL free agent market is becoming a very significant part of the NHL. With the salary cap, its invaluable to get players who can contribute in the top 9 or top 6 and cost under $1M per year.

Yeah. Thats true. Its a much easier road to an everyday NHL job if you can play two-way hockey. If Read or Raffl were poor defensive players, they would have a hard time getting regular spots. Maybe Read hangs on to one.

Because we're obviously unknowledgeable fans who year after year cheer on our hockey team who are just a bunch a talentless, blood thirsty, rule bending thugs, and who throw snow balls at nuns and orphans every Christmas.

That's not true at all... guys like Lappy and Talbot were offensive stars who had to adapt as pros in order to stick around. Most kids don't show up in the league competent two ways.

It absolutely is true. If a player isn't a top offensive producer at the NHL level, he has a much better chance to make it in the NHL if he is a two way player. It's a no brainer.

Certainly looks like a promising kid.

hopefully he friends with Frolin...then he Hagg and Grossmann could put on a fullcourt press. Detroit has the maximum allowable number of Swedes on the roster

Hence my advocation for slotting him in Raffl's spot. It can't be any worse.
