Imagine how many times the person responsible for the Art Ross Akeson jokes has had to endure that one, lol. Some stupid stuff gets enshrined around here, that's for sure.

I don't even know who started Art Ross Akeson. In fact, I don't even know Akeson's real name. I just call him Art Ross Akeson. |

I tend to agree. It's a bit of an overstatement to say that Vinny is a power forward. - FlyerGuy
I think the bigger overstatement was that he was tough to play against. |

Exactly -- as the person who simply defended the fact that Akeson had earned an opportunity to play in the preseason that a drafted player had not, then watched it morph into Jason Akeson is the greatest player ever, you have to always keep one sentence in mind about posting in message boards:

I think it had more to do with last year when he played one game with Giroux and people thought he should be his everyday winger for the foreseeable future.
Edit: Jason! Thats his name! |

The blowback was entirely ridiculous -- the context was that the Flyers absolutely couldn't score in the preseason, to the degree where they weren't even able to generate any offensive flow whatsoever. They literally couldn't score.
Some of us, seeing that switch wasn't gonna get flipped, were concerned -- while Peter Laviolette kept trying to play Zac Rinaldo 14 minutes on the third line.
So the suggestion was made that actually putting an offensive player like Akeson in the lineup in the effing preseason, instead of forcing Scott Laughton into the lineup, might work.
And lo and behold, you'd have thought some of us were questioning Moses after he came down from the mountain, stone tablets in hand
Of course, the fact that the Flyers couldn't score only lasted, what, 8 games or so into the season, where our offensive futility matched the most horrendous start in NHL FREAKING HISTORY

It was taken a little out of context, but I thought it was clear the problem was not a lack of natural skill. Akeson wasn't going to come up and give the team a big boost. The problem was zone exits. Akeson wasn't going to help in that department. It was going to need to be a team effort.
We took it and ran with it as a joke. I think there are a number of people who value points a little too much. I think thats the underlying argument for many of the other topics on this site.
I don't mean to be demeaning. Its more just joking around. I do this type of poop with my friends all the time. |

He's been pretty bad this year. People are just trying to defend him by saying he's out of position, with the wrong line mates or injured.
They've mixed and matched him everywhere. The team's 3 best centers are G, Couts and Schenn. They aren't going to move them so Vinny can play center. I don't understand why people think Vinny is going to miraculously become a much better player with a position switch. - PhillySportsGuy
I don't understand how his entire career as a successful player can be ignored, while also ignoring his effective play as a Center before the injury this Season. |

Despite shopping him and finding interest, Eagles have made decision to cut WR DeSean Jackson. Outright. Jackson is now a free agent. |

The biggest joke this season was Peter Laviolette playing Zac Rinaldo 14 minutes on Sean Couturier's wing, with Maxime Talbot on the other wing, and people defending it, while poor Couturier looked like he'd never score another goal or get another point in the NHL |
