Should I start hoarding incandescent bulbs now or do you think I still have time?
- mayorofangrytown

Too late, my wife bought them all. I sell them out of my garage at a 500% mark-up.

I dont understand what this has to do with Vinny. Hartnell stunk early on. They all stunk. Berube was looking for any combination that would work.
- PhillySportsGuy

Vinny didnt stink early. He was on a 33 goal pace....

But then he broke his back, and the team ate the chi that spilled onto the ice so they all got better, leaving Vinny and empty shell.

So let me ask you this: if one guy piles up a bunch of points in the first 15 games or so of the season and then goes cold for the rest, but ends up with the same overall production as a guy who is fairly consistent throughout the season, which one do you think is better?

The only reason I ask is because (if we want to use stats), Vinny's numbers at the beginning of the season were at a near-impossible pace to sustain over a full season, and (Vinny's injury notwithstanding) Schenn has been more consistent this season relative to Vinny. I'm not saying Vinny's worthless, but right now, Schenn deserves the 2C spot. It's his to lose and Vinny's to gain, and it will stay that way unless something changes.

If the second line scores tonight, I'm just going to chalk it up as a win for me.

I dont think you can find those anymore.... they are all those energy saving light bulbs...

Which is funny. My brother works for a lighting compnay and he says they are actually worse for the enviroment. lol

a lot like the Prius. the nickle in the prius battery comes from the most poluted mining operation in the world... its in canada... lol

That nickel mine didn't spring up when they started making the Prius, look into to it a little. That's such an internet fable.

I love my Prius. It saves me so much money it's ridiculous. I put a quarter million miles on my last one. She was a beauty.

I need incandescent bulbs so that when the nuts are willing to pay $40 a piece for them I can make serious cash.

I don't dispute that Schenn likely deserves to play the No. 2 center spot at the moment -- hell, I said that a while ago -- but again, it's just a segment in time.

What if Schenn goes pointless in his next 5 games, and Lecavalier plays better at center?

Do you just roll out Schenn for that sixth game? I don't think you should, because at some point, Lecavalier can't be the only guy who gets moved down when it goes sour.

Do the Flyers have a ton invested in these kids? Sure. And we all want them to succeed. But at the same time, this is a results-oriented business -- if Lecavalier plays better and Schenn goes into one of his scoring slumps, then hey, again, things change, and should change.

What I'm saying is that no one's roster slot, other than Giroux's should be safe. Giroux's the only superstar this franchise has. Sean Couturier's role, also, likely can't be filled with anybody in the organization.

Everybody else is subject to the rules of production -- Lecavalier can certainly move down, but that doesn't mean he can/should be the only one.

Didn't BSchenn go 16 games without a goal this year?

There are things to like about Brayden Schenn, but I don't think he's been terribly consistent. I guess this is part of the learning curve.

I wouldn't say that Vinny is the answer there right this second, either (it's not like he's done much to distinguish himself), but I'd like more out of Brayden Schenn.

Thank god the Flyers don't think Lecavalier is a 2nd line center anymore either.

You just said what I was trying to say, better than I did -- it's not like Baby Schenn's been this paragon of consistency, lighting the way through the darkness.

He's been better recently, and that's great.

I feel you guys are overvaluing his start. He had a good first couple months of the season mainly due to a high shooting percentage. He didn't generate a ton of chances. He was just very opportunistic. In essence, he was lucky to have the numbers he had.

He may have been one of their better forwards, but thats not really saying much. Our group of forwards was atrocious to start the season.

- PhillySportsGuy

That's the same as saying he had a good first couple of months because he scored a bunch of goals. Saying he was lucky is just making stuff up. He's been a proven goal scorer his entire career. Now he just got lucky? Pretty much all goal scorers have hot streaks. It's not getting lucky, it's the result of playing well, getting to the right spots, and finishing ability.
And now he may have played pretty well, but that's just because the other forwards wer atrocious? How the other forwards played, don't change how Lecavalier played.
If objectivity is going to be applied in looking at the player, then his good play can't be just cast off as "lucky"

Ha! You were banging that drum a while back, but I think it's fair to question whether Schenn is the answer there, either -- he's younger, but it'd be nice to see him take this thing and answer that question definitively.

Their argument is stats based. They say look at Vinny's stats earlier this year. Well, his shooting percentage was 19% earlier this year. Thats unsustainable.

What I'm saying is you can't prorate his numbers and expect him to produce at the same clip. There was going to be a regression to the mean.

They act like he was lighting the world on fire, but he was just shooting a higher percentage. He wasn't generating more chances.

- PhillySportsGuy

If I'm who you are referring to in the group as "their", stating that my argument is stats based, is false.

I think this lineup change actually gives us a pretty formidable 4th line. It is expensive, but whatever. If this sticks for the rest of the season does it mean Lecavalier wants out by the end of the season? I mean, if he doesn't want out already since he can't play C.
