That was just to mix things up.
Schenn is only going to get better and Vinny is only going to get worse (Physically). I think they look to move Vinny this summer somehow some way. I don't think he fits into their future. |

For example, there is holding on EVERY PLAY in football, but it's only called sometimes. - jmatchett383
Selective enforcement is one thing.
But it's not like holding is ok if you're not in the red zone, or on 1st downs only, or some other arbitrary qualifier. Hockey just has so many of these, along with selective enforcement, that it's no wonder the officials are constantly (frank)ing poop up. |

I dont think anything is certain yet. If they go after a top defenseman it could be Schenn moving and Vinny will be right back to centering 2nd line. Maybe by next year it would be 3rd line...

And Tye McGinn was playing on the top line in November.
Look, no one's saying Vinny should not be allowed to play the 2C spot. When he was the team's best player in October, no one had an issue with it.
However, over the past stretch, due possible to injury, Braydon Schenn had been playing well as the 2C and had overtaken Vinny's spot. Vinny has since played primarily on the LW.
Now, if Vinny shows an ability to play better than Schenn (all things being not equal) as a center over a stretch of play and/or outperforms Schenn in a different way, then there is the possibility of changing that. However, as it stands right now, Vinny has to earn that back, not only by equaling Schenn but by surpassing him.
Schenn is younger, cheaper, and has more upside than Vinny for the future. Therefore, if all things are equal, I'd prefer to nurture Schenn, and he has the ability to help you win both now and a decade from now, while the window for Vinny is much shorter. |

So nobody can tell me when concurrent penalties result in a 4v4 vs 5v5?

Stewert did a blog on this a few months ago... go back read.
It has to do with penalities that occure at the same time, vs penalities that happen independant of eachother. |

But like I said, in football, you CAN hold for 5 yards, but not after 5 yards.
Again, in baseball, some strikes can be called as a third strike, and some can't (your comprehension of the rules notwithstanding).
And in basketball, again, hitting a guy's hand will not get him free shots, unless you hit his hand a certain amount of times, then it will. |

19.1 Coincidental Minor Penalties - When coincident minor penalties or coincident minor penalties of equal duration are imposed against players of both teams, the penalized players shall all take their places on the penalty benches and such penalized players shall not leave the penalty bench until the first stoppage of play following the expiry of their respective penalties. Immediate substitution shall be made for an equal number of minor penalties or coincident minor penalties of equal duration to each team so penalized and the penalties of the players for which substitutions have been made shall not be taken into account for the purpose of the delayed penalty rule (Rule 27). This rule only applies when at least one team is already serving a time penalty in the penalty box that causes them to be short-handed.
When one minor penalty is assessed to one player of each team at the same stoppage in play, these penalties will be served without substitution provided there are no other penalties in effect and visible on the penalty clocks. Both teams will therefore play four skaters against four skaters for the duration of the minor penalties.

They were mixing and matching lines quite a bit early on. The reason Vinny played on the 2nd line for so long is because he's not good enough to play on the top line and he's terrible defensively and shouldn't be on the shutdown line. |

Trust me -- I understand all of that, and that's fine. I'm totally fine with that. But the hate of the guy is ridiculous -- the guy had a broken bone in his back.
If he can't play, fine. That determination will be made. But minimizing his play when it was good and butchering him when it's bad -- I'll never get that. |

Why would they have done it earlier. Maybe the asking price was too high. Maybe their target is a team that was in the playoff hunt. Who knows. |

No, it was because Scott Hartnell was awful -- I realize you want to win the debate, but there isn't a soul who watched those games and read coverage of this team who didn't realize that Hartnell played his way OFF Line 1, then played his way back ON it.
I've watch 67, 68 games this year -- that's what happened! |

So let me ask you this: if one guy piles up a bunch of points in the first 15 games or so of the season and then goes cold for the rest, but ends up with the same overall production as a guy who is fairly consistent throughout the season, which one do you think is better?
The only reason I ask is because (if we want to use stats), Vinny's numbers at the beginning of the season were at a near-impossible pace to sustain over a full season, and (Vinny's injury notwithstanding) Schenn has been more consistent this season relative to Vinny. I'm not saying Vinny's worthless, but right now, Schenn deserves the 2C spot. It's his to lose and Vinny's to gain, and it will stay that way unless something changes. |

I dont understand what this has to do with Vinny. Hartnell stunk early on. They all stunk. Berube was looking for any combination that would work. |
