Well it is a cyclical issue. If they play stronger at ES then they will draw more PPs. But they aren't going to beat the Rangers at 5-on-5 hockey. They clog everything up too much and Lundquist is too good of a goalie... Pure and simple.
- SchennBros

The Flyers absolutely can beat the Rangers at 5 on 5 play. If they do the things they need to do, such as get the puck deep, support the puck, get in on the forecheck. As well as play strong defensively. And they need to get traffic and get more pucks to the net, and go to the net strong. If they do all of that, they can beat the Rangers at 5 on 5 play. Flyers have outplayed much better 5 on 5 teams than the Rangers this Season.

I think it's a matter of the Rangers being in their head. I felt like I was watching a replay I've seen a number of times. They go to the MSG, and they just stop doing effective things. The Rangers are always right on the puck in their own zone, and win every board battle. If the Flyers could somehow dispel this, it would be cathartic.

You can say that about any team playing against any other team. Of course if they do ALL those things perfectly they can win. But the System the Rangers play is very stifiling to the Flyers. They clog the lanes, block shots, and win board battles. If they do manage to get a shot on net, then they have to battle the 2nd best goalie in the league.

The Flyers system just isnt set up to beat them. Now the penguins play more of a style to beat them. They play more off transitions, and odd man rushes, where the Flyers generate plays by board battles and in zone passing... which NYR defends almost perfectly.

I find it quite ironic that a guy who complains about OT subjects such as politics (though I agree), music, movies, etc, will go on for pages about the word 'hoagie'.

Hoagie is a Philly thing. We are in a Philly thread.

And I don't mind political talk. I love it. But I see the irony.

Could be because of a boring day at work, I dunno.

There is some validity here. However because you said sub, it's dismissed and you're found guilty of treason.

your correct in the sense that the system the Rag's play is tough for the Flyers, but it definately can be beat....and the Flyers can be successful.....the Flyers need to stick to their own game plan which is to fore-check and be physical....they have not done it consistantly the last two games and the results are what they are.
They need to stick to the program....I thought they were the better of the two teams for most of the first period but they had a lull and it costs them.....It reminds me of the devils games against philly.....Hard work beats any system.
Berube could also do a better job with mixing up his top combo's to get Giroux some space, but it really falls on Claude's shoulders to be more focused an smart with his decisions.
The Rangers played very well last night, but its not like they bring that game every night.

12-14-0 (11 ROW) against the top-11 5V5 teams in the league... that includes some one-sided losses to the Sharks, 'Hawks and Bruins. Not bad, considering that the Flyers are a mediocre 5V5 team themselves, but still sub-500. Rangers are #6. Flyers #25.
