Well only 3 ways for the Flyers to get a number 1 defenseman in the next few years... 1) trade roster players. 2)trade prospects. 3) Hope one of the guys you have exceeds expectations.

Personally I would like to take a chance with the prospects to land Ekblad. I like what I have heard from him. I think the likely hood of him NOT becoming a number 1 d-man is pretty low.

He's 6'4" and is a right handed d-man.
This isnt a guy that you see has an offensive game that needs to develop a defensive game, or a defensive game that you hope develops an offensive game. This is a guy that is already well rounded with size and strenght, great devefensive awareness, and great offensive potential. If anyone could be like Shea Weber, this guy could...

For those humping Aaron Ekblad, the best example I can find of a guy who had high projections, was a high pick, had similar production on a similar junior team, and has had time to establish himself, is Zack Bogosian. Played for a middle-of-the pack OHL team, put up 30+ and then 50+ points in consecutive OHL seasons (34/53 Ekblad, 33/61 Bogosian), drafted high in the first round (3rd overall). I'm not saying he'll be better or worse, but it's the best example I can find.

So, do you want to trade your last 2 first-rounders and next 2 first-rounders for a guy who has the same kind of game as Zack Bogosian at this point?

Also, have you actually watched Ekblad play with any regularity? He doesn't remind me of Shea Weber at all. He doesn't have the same velocity/accuracy that Weber had at that time. He's not as physical/mean as Weber was (although he's not afraid to play physically), although he's a better skater at this point.

Gotta think it would cost more than youd be willing to pay.

Bogosian wasnt granted exceptional player status by Hockey Canada.

Have I? No, and I don't have facebook/twitter. And no, I've never cheated on my wife (the only logical conclusion from what I said). But thanks for being an bumhole.

Well then, lock for the HOF.

Also, that means he's had more time to play in the OHL, and STILL wasn't able to match Bogo's production in his 18-year-old year.

I'm not saying Ekblad won't be good, but if we're going to go for a homerun and empty our already-thin prospect pool, can we please go after someone with at least 40 games of NHL experience?

Not saying that, just that ekblad is a lot more highly touted atm than bogosian was. Tavares and mcdavid are the only other players in the ohl to be granted that so it says something about his skill level.

The exceptional player status wasn't instituted in the OHL until Tavares (the year after Bogosian). Stamkos and a host of others would likely have gotten it had it been around.

Idk why you have a hardon for bogosian that dude is not that good. He was never good enough as a prospect to play in the world juniors for example.

I don't have a hard-on for him. That's my point. Junior production and a highly-touted pick do not make one a surefire elite NHL defenseman. That's exactly what I'm getting it.

Do I think he will be? Probably. Am I willing to empty the prospect pool that this team is trying to build to obtain him with no NHL experience? Not at all.

Owned him? Hardly. A player that said he was going to FA is not a good example. Especially on a team that played the way we did this season and another season away from a new facility(afterall that was the point which I'm guessing you missed?). It was an adolescent response from chubby and was kind of off topic which is par for the course with the chubster. Guessing that's why it was easy for you to relate too? I like MSL, always have but that trade is looking a little in the red now. I do think he will start scoring eventually but a first in 2015(you guys aren't making the conference finals so no worries on the other one)and a trade chip(callahan)is fairly steep for a player that said he would only play for you. Sather had Yzerman by the nuts. Nash is Nash. Overrated and over injured and over paid.

John Davidson will succeed Jim Gregory as chairman of the Hockey Hall of Fame selection committee while Bob Clarke, David Poile and Luc Robitaille will also join as new members.

Example of why I wouldn't do the 4-for-1 trade:

Let's say in 05/06, the Flyers realized they needed to make a move for the consensus #1 pick, defenseman Erik Johnson, to solidify their blueline for years to come. So they offer their last 2 first-round picks (4th line center Mike Richards and scrapper Steve Downie) as well as their next 2 first-round picks (Claude Giroux and James van Riemsdyk). I mean, those guys MAY be good players one day, but we need to get a bonafide #1 defenseman via the draft, and hope he works out.

Exactly, if you're trading 4 for 1, you do it for an established NHL stud, not a kid who might have been the 2nd or 3rd defenseman selected had he been in the draft a year earlier.
