So Patches gets the winner and Vanek is the second star?

They're really trying to shmooz him, no?

- pete26

probably yes

So, I think that no matter what happens in the playoffs, meaning swept in 4, or all the way to the finals (I realize that's not happening, but just for the context of my post, let's say it could), Vanek is not resigning with the Habs. Agreed?
- hscesq

as of this morning, i would say there's no chance.
IF they have some success in the playoffs, i think it inches the chances upwards, but even still, i'd lean heavily towards no chance.
my only hope is that he's replaced with someone who can fit into the top 6.

Vanek was the best forward on the ice last night.

Always lead with the train wreck story.

it's only going to get worse. and not just on TSN. all Canadian media outlets. Leaf coverage really ramps up when they tank.

I think Gionta will stay. I have nothing against the guy, but they just need to get bigger.

That being said, if they can't find a suitable replacement, I think it would be ok, as long as he is a 3rd line player that's given penalty killing responsibilities. At a reduced price as well.

Most probably yes.

I couldn't watch the game.

Looked like a snooze fest from the news reports.

Bourque-Plekanec-Gionta will be one expensive 3rd line

Galchenyuk needs a strong LW to play with him and Gallagher and yes they should resign Vanek which seems highly unlikely. Yesterday's game showed that this team needs him.

Eller just needs to...go.

i think they'll make a huge push for Vanek and offer him the biggest deal he'll receive. still don't think he signs it though.

I don't see MB able to trade him without receiving a bad salary back.

Was he the second best player on the ice?

That I'm not so sure of.

I thought the Gio line had more jump.

But, I missed most of the third.

He is really clicking with Patches and DD, he should stay here long term, just like the Hawks did with Hossa.

Hawks were a bonafide contender and were able to offer him 12 years.

Vanek will probably get great offers from Minnesota (don't know exactly why except that it's been reported for months) and Anaheim (Selanne out).

Moulson COULD be Montreal's option B...

Yeah but with Therrien he'll be playing with Plekanec and Briere for some reason in 4 games.

the guy makes $3.5 million for another 2 years. those are pretty negligible numbers. if a GM feels that a change of scenery could turn him into a 15-18 goal 3rd liner, it's not inconceivable that Montreal can move him without taking salary back.

yeah assuming Vanek walks, Montreal needs to pick up another top-6 guy. they can't just re-sign Gionta as a second liner.

Moulson, and replace Gionta with Jagr.
