In 5 years the cap is projected to be something in the lines of 80mil+ a year. Yes these contracts will hurt, but they won't be crippling.
- FlyersSteve118

Paying $12M (15% of your projected cap) for 70 points isn't good. This is assuming they continue the same scoring pace and don't get worse.

Will Carter get a video tribute tonight like Richards got his first time back?
- PLindbergh31

I hope he gets one. He did some good stuff here.

That said, I didn't shed any tears when they traded him.

I was more of a Mike Richards guy, as I suspect most fans were.

Beat guys saying that Ray Emery is in the "home" net which is usually the starter's net. Guess they want to keep both guys fresh & get them their innings
- Jsaquella

I am ok with that. Although I don't think Emery should get any more than 3 more starts the rest of the season.

Might be a battle of the backups tonight like the Chicago game. LA plays in Washington tomorrow night.

Not a bad idea. The Rangers game is more important. I would rather have Mason for the bigger game.

I was much more of a Richards guy. Carter has more talent, but he loafed around too much for my liking.

Everyone benefits from having Timonen as their partner. Luke Schenn looked like a top pairing defensive defenseman with Kimmo last year.
- PhillySportsGuy

That is why Timonen should get the Ashbee

Oh, man. That's harsh.

I think Jsaq had a point in that Richards may have needed the media attention here to drive him. Perhaps he plays better when angry, a la Giroux.

Tough to explain for me. I don't think Carter loafed, per se. There's a certain style of play that I enjoy and Jeff Carter doesn't play it. It's subjective on my part. Like I said, he did some good things here.

Problem with Carter was that he had a big shot and not much else. He didn't pass much and doens't have that ability to set other players up.
- Daveflyers36

He still played well defensively. One thing about Carter was his ability to score no matter who he played with. When he played with a great passer, it didn't really help. If he played with lesser talent, he could still put up points.

He was never a great passer, but his shot created scoring chances because goalies had a difficult time controlling it. I remember Hartnell benefitting from playing with him.

Like I said, he was a very good player for the Flyers but his game didn't translate in the playoffs. He wasn't a great board player.

People keep assuming this, but there's really nothing to support it.

Panaccio: So Richie, why are your point totals down? Are you washed-up?

Richards goes on to score 4 goals tonight.

You got it. The comparison for Carter that worked for me was Mats Sundin.

Also, the line Carter was on with Lupul and Hartnell was a pretty good line.

I thought this year's cap increase did not reflect the new TV deal signed by Canada

I was talking more about his offensive abilities. I agree he we pretty good defensively. When him are Richards was here, our penality killing unit not only was shutdown but we were a huge threat to score shorthanded as well. That is something I miss.

I agree. He did some great things. He's a supreme talent. I don't think his work ethic matches his talent level. Just my opinion.

Its funny because Kings fans think he is some kind of two way player that always back checks. He never showed an ounce of that kind of play here. I guess the trade knocked a little sense into him.

I think one day, near the end of his career, Richards is going to punch Tim squarely in the face.

I get that. Obviously it will be hindering, but they will just have to work around it.

Our PK is pretty good now. They aren't as much a threat to score short handed though. I think Read has 4 SHG, which is one behind the leader. Not much after that.

Carter and Richards were both good at creating odd man rushes. I remember that being a large part of their John Stevens offense.
