Does the CHL have two different drafts? One for midget players and one for international? Or are they just grouped together?
It just seems like London ends up with some pretty good players quite often. I'm wondering how they get those guys. - PhillySportsGuy
Yes, each leagues are held at different times.
OHL - April 5th
QMJHL - June 7th
WHL - May 1st (I believe)
CHL Import draft - July 2nd (in this area)..........They have banned the selection on goalies from Europe. |

They don't like how Canadian goalies have developed and Euro goalies had much success playing in the CHL.
A way around that is move over at 14 establish residence in a minor major midget league and then are eligible to play. |

That seems a bit unfair.

It is but they passed the rule.
"The goaltender position is the most important in our game," CHL president David Branch told the league's website. "In partnership with Hockey Canada, the CHL has identified the need to further develop Canadian goaltenders by providing increased opportunities for them to compete in our league and succeed at the next level. The CHL will continue to be the world's largest development league and the number-one supplier of talent to the National Hockey League and Canadian Interuniversity Sport."

To me, it seems like allowing international goalies would force NA to produce better goaltending. It would force them to raise their games.
The European leagues only allow a certain number of NHL players during the lockout, so I guess denying access to certain leagues happens all over. |

Barrie was the only team to take one but with Mackenzie Blackwood claiming the crease as a 16 year old this year & looking damn good, I don't see Daniel Gibl getting much crease time going forward. |

That's sexy as hell.
I've said this before and I'll say it again. I was looking to get an OEL tee to add to my collection of non-Flyer names: Datsyuk and Pietrangelo (also have a Whalers Ron Francis and a Nordiques Peter Stastny but I got them in Quebec so I don't count them )
THE COYOTES DON'T SELL TEES WITH HIS NAME ON THE BACK. Or at least, not in January or so.
Like what the (frank). No wonder no one cares about that franchise. They don't even market one of the best young players in the entire game
EDIT: They sell them now. I just googled. That's hilarious |

It's pretty easy for me to say this now, but there's so many reasons it was hard to watch the Flyers from mid 2011 until December of this season, because I knew Laviolette's coaching scheme wasn't working and wasn't going to work. The Flyers had the best record in the NHL mid-season in 2010-2011, then had a terrible, plummeting second half of the season and limped into the playoffs. They beat Buffalo in the first round and got swept by Boston in the second round. We all remember that, eh? I remember telling my friends towards the last 1/3 of the season that Laviolette needed to go because the team had quit on him. I lost all faith in him that year. I know the goalie carousel and Pronger getting injured didn't help. I also realize they lost to the eventual champions. But to go to from the league's best record, to almost getting upset by Buffalo in the first round, to getting embarrassed by the Bruins;....that plummet was Laviolette's fault. So the next season Carter and Richards both shockingly got traded in the offseason and they brought in Bryzgalov. Flyers had a decent season and had a hell of a series against the Penguins, upsetting Vegas' Stanley Cup pick. They lucked out the next round and got home ice against the Devils. But Laviolette was horribly outcoached that series. He refused to adjust his game and the Devils exposed the heck out of the Philly D. The Flyers should have at least made it to the conference finals that year. That whole offseason I was so upset because I wanted Lavvy gone so bad. At that point, everyone was sick of hearing me complaining about Laviolette for two years. In my opinion the Flyers were huge underachievers since their run to the finals in 2010 and Lavvy was the one holding them back. Last season they failed to make the playoffs and I became blue in the face, putting all the blame on Lavvy. I couldn't stand him as Flyers coach. Coming into this season, I loved the Flyers group of players, but I knew they weren't going to be contenders playing for Laviolette. When they came out slow, I was the only one out of my group of friends that didn't wanna blow the team up, because I liked our players. Then three games into the season, they finally fired Laviolette. First of all, I was almost dancing naked in the streets because I was so happy he was finally gone, but secondly I was so excited to watch the games, because I knew they had the players to be a championship style team. It was just a matter of getting some good direction. I watched almost all of Berube's games when he played as a Flyer and I really believed he was born to be the Flyers head coach and he'd be such a good fit for the team and the city. My point to this whole post is that this season has been one of my favorite Flyers seasons ever, because I knew that once they got rid of Lavvy, these players would flourish under Berube and the Flyers would rise again in good old Flyers fashion. Look at all these young players turning into legitimate superstars and look at how the Flyers are built from top to bottom. Berube is getting the most out of his players and his team is built for a championship. One scary thought is that coaching is a strong suit of the Flyers now and on paper, they're built to rumble with the best. Sorry to clog up the feed, but I'm Flyered up and I knew this team was better than settling for Laviolette's mediocre seasons. The sky is the limit now. |

Well I am getting my hopes up for a playoff run. I hope the O & B end up facing Columbus. I would make the 3 hour drive north from Lexington to brave Blue Jacket nation and catch a playoff game. |

True -- the Flyers, like most teams, look totally different when their second line is going.
I've beaten it to death, so I'll leave it here: I always like it when players choose to come to Philadelphia through free agency. Yeah, it can be debated that this contract was a luxury, not a necessity.
But Lecavalier chose to come here. I want the guy to play well, think/hope he can. I would take no pleasure in seeing him falter. - AllInForFlyers
i liked seeing his two unslefish plays to end the game |
