I don't see why they are. Neither Rosehill or VDV have played in the lineup for an extended time. There's a big difference between having a player on the roster as a 13th forward for a game here and there, versus a long term situation. No reason to have McGinn up with the team as a healthy scratch most games.
Now if Downie is out long term, that is a different situation. And we'll see what they choose to do.

I agree about having McGinn play in the AHL instead of sitting.

I just don't want to see the extended version of VDV or Rosehill without getting a look at McGinn first.

They knew as a team that they couldn't play the way that Laviolette wanted them to play. When you don't believe something can be done, you don't do it very well.

Yep they quit on him. Glad Homer did what he did with firing Lava, but it should have be done at the end of last year. Doesn't matter I guess, they are where they are.

I agree. Holmgren has been criticized for a lot of things, most of it complete BS. But not firing Laviolette in the off season is a legitimate criticism. It hurt the team out of the gate. But they seemed to have recovered. Berube has done a great job.

I supported Lava. I thought the problems were more personnel related. I was wrong though.

Berube has structured them very well. Im not sure anyone can get them to stop taking bad penalties though.

You weren't 100% wrong there. The problems were personnel related. They couldn't play that style. Laviolette, with the right players, will be successful. History tells us that. But he refused to adapt, so he had to go.

i agree it was time to go, but its easy to forget Lavi had them playing like a juggernaut that finished 2nd in the conference in 2011. (before getting swept by boston tho)

Berube could be pushing all the right buttons this year but just as easily fall off next year.

Yeah. Berube plays a very simple style too. Win board battles, remain defensively conscious and help your defenseman on breakouts.

The gaps between the defenseman and forwards is so much better now than it used to be. Under Lavi, we couldn't even see the forwards in the screen. Now, you always see them circling back to help out.

At some point, this team will have trouble scoring and fans will clamor for a coach who has a more offensive mind.

"Berube has a good, defensive system, but we need someone who will open things up a bit."

Big difference between a 3-2 press forecheck system, versus a more stable 2-1-2 forecheck. The best teams in the League play the way Berube has the Flyers playing.

I look at the two teams that played today. The Blues have one of the top defenses in the NHL that drives their game. They have a fine collection of hard nose grinding forwards, and some offensive talent. But they're really missing that offensive catalyst that the Flyers have.

Now the Flyers have a top group of quality forwards, and one of the top offensive players in the game. They have a solid defense core, but are missing that one top defenseman.

Need to put both teams in a bucket and mix them together!

I know. Pietrangelo, Shattenkirk and JBo. Such a wealth of talent. Where can we get one of those!?

Edit: I think the one thing holding the Blues back is their lack of a true leading scorer. An offensive guy who can take over a game like Giroux can. Every Stanley Cup team has a forward who just takes over the playoffs. Not sure the Blues have that guy.
