Would you be opposed to moving Grossmann after the season, and bringing Meszaros back on a reasonable deal? I wouldn't.
- PLindbergh31

No, Grossmann is a key penalty killer, and Mez isn't going to replace that.

It'll bother me. I want the Flyers to win the cup.
- Hextall271

Well yea, what will bother me is the Flyers NOT winning the Cup. Not Meszaros skating with the Cup if Boston wins it.

Individual components on the PK aren't exactly irreplaceable... case in point, Max Talbot.

For all of you who live in the South Jersey shore area:

I would like to get together at a local sports bar to watch an upcoming game. I have already spoke to PhillySportsGuy and Tangent Man and they are onboard!

The dates I'm looking at are either:
Sunday, 3/30 vs Boston
Thursday, 4/3 vs CBJ
or
Sunday, 4/6 vs Buffalo

Please PM me if you are interested and with what date is best for you, thanks!

Gonna be a tough test today, you know Hitch had to be steaming after the Chicago game! That being said, I think the Flyers can beat anyone the way they are playing right now. However a 60 minute effort of hard skating and hard work is a must if they expect to get 2 points!

LOL. I really don't want to see Boston win it, but not because of Mesz. I can't see how they won't come out of the East however.

Preach, good sir -- the pure ability to score goals...yeah, I know it's sexy to bash the weaknesses of a guy like Ovechkin, but popping 50-plus means a lot more than his detractors want to acknowledge.

He didn't state that Grossmann is irreplaceable. He stated that Meszaros can't replace Grossmann in that element of play. The premise was Meszaros replacing Grossmann.

No they're not, but Streit isn't a guy I'd count on for PK and neither is Mez, so you would be down to only 4 D to fill that role. I happen to like Grossmann. I know he's struggled at times, but I think you need big mean SOB's like him to make a deep playoff run.

Ah sorry, was just speaking to the losing Grossmann part, not the adding Mez part

If they're planning to pay AMac $$$, I hope they play the poop out of him on the PK.

The one thing we can say with 100% certainty is Meszaros won't become the billionth player to leave Philadelphia and win a Stanley Cup.

You can take that to the bank. If anyone thinks differently I will give them 1000 to 1 odds on it happening.

What a tragedy that would be

With his shot blocking ability and his good mobility I think he would be very good on the PK

Well lots of things can happen:
Some other goalie gets red hot
Injuries

If the top team in each conference went to the finals every year, there would be no need to play the games.

For sure... he hasn't been in the regular PK rotation yet, which is odd. If they're going to get their money's worthy out of him, he needs to crack one of the two pairs they use regularly.

I think this playoff run -- if the Flyers make it, which still is not guaranteed -- will really say a lot about this team.

Do Brayden Schenn and Sean Couturier have another gear, as it appears Couturier might have hit since the break? What if the playoffs bring it out of them? Then...whoa.

Andy MacDonald's already been a tremendous benefit to Luke Schenn. But what if Schenn gets comfortable enough with his new partner and actually plays a playoff series or two like we saw him play the majority of last year? Again...whoa.

Vincent Lecavalier's had a tougher first season than anybody hoped...but he's looked pretty good, at least offensively, since the break. What if in these final 13 games, he actually gets hot heading into the playoffs, then starts popping goals? Again...whoa.

There are some weaknesses with the team, to be certain...but no more or less than anybody else. If Giroux gets hurt, or Mason, or Coburn or Timonen, then things could turn sour in a hurry.

But hell...this team right now...there are things they don't do exceptionally well. But I can absolutely see them going deep, too.

I think there's no chance whatsoever that they bring back Mez at whatever salary.

He couldn't find ice time while he was here, not because of what he earned, but because Berube decided the team was better without him so they moved him. If they want to progress, why would they have a change of heart at the end of the season regardless of his cap hit?

Not really that odd. The Flyers are in a set rotation with the PK pairs of Cobrun/Timonen and Grossmann/Schenn. MacDonald would likely be the 5th in one of those players was in the box.

The way they are playing now, they are a team that no one is going to look forward to playing in the first round!

Exactly, the PK has been fantastic, why rock the boat. I think if they can get their playoff spot locked up with a few games to go you might see AMac take some minutes away from Kimmo on the PK just to keep the little Finnish warrior fresh for the postseason.

Kimmo's quietly been converted to a special teams specialist. He sees less ES ATOI than Schenn, Gus and Mez, yet he's ranked 2nd in average mins per game.

And I was referring to AMac being able to step in should they trade off Grossmann... definitely roll with what they have for the rest of this season.

I truly believe the courtesy and respect the Flyers have shown Vinny...I just think that is going to pay off.

His transition hasn't been totally smooth. But I know he can still play. You can see it. He's got some adjusting to do to as an aging player, but I still think he can contribute offensively.

I don't mind hiding players, because that's coaching. Somebody's always getting protected.

But I truly believe Vinny has more than a few goals left in him, for a couple of seasons, including the playoffs. I sincerely hope I'm not wrong about that, because I honestly believe it.

It's been that way with Timonen for the last couple of Seasons. He's been down towards the bottom in ES minutes among Flyers defenseman. But he plays key minutes in all situations.
