I would, mainly because I view Meszaros as a known commodity who, while still an NHL defenseman, is little more than a lateral move.
If the Flyers bring in another defenseman in the offseason, I am truly hopeful that player is a clear upgrade to most, if not all, players we have or have had over the last two seasons. - AllInForFlyers
Fair points. If Timonen doesn't retire they can use him as a bridge for another year when perhaps more quality dmen become available. If Timonen does retire, not sure what the plan is. Can't go into next season with Coburn as the # 1 defenseman. |

Would you be opposed to moving Grossmann after the season, and bringing Meszaros back on a reasonable deal? I wouldn't. - PLindbergh31
I don't hate Mesz but he's been made of glass the last few years.. I think that's the way the org sees it too.. I think that ship has sailed... |

I wouldn't touch him. There will be plenty of better players than Mez. He couldn't even crack the top 6 on a team with a fairly weak top 6. |

Remember when Alex Steen was neck and neck with OV for the goals lead? Guy has 5-goals in the past three months -- regressing something fierce. |

I wouldn't. There are other players who are more known than Mez. I would rather find someone willing to play defense. - PhillySportsGuy

Yeah -- he had a concussion, though, missed a few games. Totally threw him off -- though he's not a 40-50 goalscorer, anyway. Contract year.

He really tapered off. He already has a career high in points though. |

Plus he missed about a month to injury. And there was that pesky Olympic break. |

Or, it might have had something to do with his 35.5% conversion rate on shots for the first month... picture of unsustainability. His shots per game has steadily been dropping month by month too, another bad sign. |

35.5? DAMN! That guy was absolutely on fire -- he did that for a month?

Think it underscores just how incredible guys like OV and Stamkos are... able to sustain well-above average SH% AND consistently pour on a high volume of shots. Guys like Steen, Carter, Marleau can do it in flashes, but the two guys at the top are just really special. |

Preach, good sir -- the pure ability to score goals...yeah, I know it's sexy to bash the weaknesses of a guy like Ovechkin, but popping 50-plus means a lot more than his detractors want to acknowledge.

The one thing we can say with 100% certainty is Meszaros won't become the billionth player to leave Philadelphia and win a Stanley Cup.
You can take that to the bank. If anyone thinks differently I will give them 1000 to 1 odds on it happening. - PLindbergh31
If Meszaros is fortunate enough to win the Cup, good for him. I'll be happy for him. And it won't bother me in the slightest bit. |

Asking how someone's numbers stack up against another player is saying Mezsaros is better than MacDonald? That's a pretty big stretch to make that assumption. - PLindbergh31
Then what was the point of asking?

Truest test today the the Flyers to gauge themselves.
Though they played well against the Pens in the back to back, Pitt was a shell of themselves, decimated with injuries. The Hawks, though icing a complete lineup, were in the midst of a mediocre run so it was a great time to play them. If the Flyers do fall behind 2-0 against the Blues, the outcome may be a bit different.
We need to jump out early and continue to keep our legs moving. Pressure the defense and don't allow them room to skate freely through the neutral zone.
It's a good time to be playing a team like the Blues, not because StL is playing .500 like the Hawks were at the time, but because the Flyers have been up on their skates playing well and Mason has been on the top of his game.
Should be fun. |
