There were only a couple of guys bashing him......and they're still doing it. Most people, at least the ones here, wanted Murray to make that deal. - sensarmy_11
At the cost of a 3rd and 5th it's a no brainer. |

100% agreed even if only to have a look at his chemistry with Spezza. |

Who says Hemsky stays if Milo walks? Can't tell me Hemsky hasn't enjoyed playing with Spezza and Milo, not Spezza and (insert cheap prospect here) which would certainly be the case should they let Milo walk. Why not resign both? |

Fair enough. And I'm sorry I called you prock, I didn't mean it, I just was mad about all the prock vs. everyone threads I've had to wade through lately |

Ales Hemsky pros: great talent and probably playing in oil country made him an underrated , cons: very inconsistent. not a big goal scorer; 2 time 20 goal scorer. Health is also a concern.
The problem with this situation is that Hemsky has played his way into the $4.5-$5.5 range on a multi year deal. If he continues to be close to PPG, he's going to get it. If he wants $5M it's over 2 years. If he wants 5 over 3 years, maybe, but I would rather save the $. Also nothing longer than 4 years, unless it's $4M.
Ideal for both parties: 4 years at $4M per
Side note: I'm a big oiler fan (2nd fav team). I think Hemsky could be the next coming of Kovalev. Foreplay dangles that just keep you blue-balled the whole season. Hemsky's great with Spez, but both bring tons of high risk play. I like his back checking but I'm sure he knows that every game is a chance to increase his value right now. IF he signs, basing a long term deal on a guy that is just mediocre is risky, especially when you consider the sample size. Anderson was a good deal though, and MacArthur signing worked too... so who knows. I'm more ok with higher cap hit than term. |

Ottawa needs a high end d-man to play with Karlsson.
Keith-Seabrook, JayBo-Pietrangelo, Burns-Boyle, Sidenberg-Chara, Martin-Letang (when healthy), markov-suban, whoever-Doughty... every team needs that 2nd reliable guy that logs big mins.
Methot is a 2nd pairing shutdown guy. Cowen is a young high end physical mobile dman IF he plays at his potential but isn't close atm. Weircioch has one of, if not the best, first pass outside the zone. Great shot and playmaking. Skating has come along well too, but again consistency. Ceci is awesome all around but at least 6 months away from being a impact player. Also right handed shot. Gryba is big, strong, but.. what else? Phillips, love the character but why did we resign him for 2 years? Boroweirci is a great replacement |

he will most likely want more than a 2 year deal to let trade speculation go.
I would give him a 3 yr/17mil deal. Little but of a pay raise - Beezer33
he'll go to market and get a 4 year deal from someone. if clarkson got 5+, so does Hemmer. |

Kovalev was amazing in Montreal. We'd be getting those years of Hemsky's career... |

Would Flyers deal Simmonds or Voracek for Ryan, if he doesn't want to sign? - Ottawa Fan
Well...um...no. Those guys are cost-controlled for multiple seasons, and if Ryan decides to walk, they can just throw money at him, if he wants to play there and they want to sign him. |

This would be far better than the Clarkson contract. Hemsky is close to having more points in 7 games with the Senators than Clarkson does in 49 with the Leafs. - HoweHatrick
And you don't have to worry about cap recapture or retirement clauses. He's going to spend his remainingbyears on the IR. |

Could be worse. Could be the sens. Who woiuldnt spend the 6mil on anyone, and just plug the spot with an AHL league min plug. |

Flyers don't usually have 5-7 mill in cap space waiting on a player. Might have to trade contracts back. If he doesn't extend in offseason, I see a trade
I wish Sens had the problem of being so close to the cap |

That will likely be quickly spent on a dman if he retires. Shea Weber is due that big bonus and it wouldn't surprise me if they try to get him.

Give Hemsky 5 years at $5M per season. It's really not a ton of money for a potential 1st line winger. If he can be a 50 point guy then that's more than worth it.
As for the cap floor, I hope we don't hover around there next season. It's embarrassing for an organization to cheap out when they are fully supported by their fan base. Melnyk will have a lot of tough questions directed at him (hopefully if our Ottawa media grows some balls) if they decide on keeping on relying on the cheap pipeline. People need to ask questions about where is the TV money going and why is the team spending in the bottom 1/3 of the teams. And, when does the organization see itself turning things around where they can be a top spender once again? |
