There's nothing to plan, we're taking Connor McDavid. I'm glad to see you taking a break from planning the parade. - Reveen

Surely in this scenario you let MacArthur walk? - walshyleafsfan
MacArthur and Ryan are both signed next year.. Hemsky is not |

I seem to recall a few Senator fans calling Hemsky garbage (prior to him going to Ottawa). Now talk of an extension. - Reveen
There were only a couple of guys bashing him......and they're still doing it. Most people, at least the ones here, wanted Murray to make that deal. |

Much has been said about ice allocation this year. When 4th line players are getting relatively big minutes other players are losing out. Unless Ryan's ice time was limited by the injury he is rumoured to be playing with, I am not so sure he is interested in signing with the Senators. Several of the interviews he has given this year would suggest that he is not entirely happy with his situation in Ottawa. Ryan may not entertain an extension. |

I was not entirely sold on the trade but I was suspecting much more than what was given for him. |

This post blows my mind.
At the time Hemsky was signed for 2 years 5.5 it was widely considered a good deal by Oilers fans (who have seen what he can do) and an absolutely terrible over payment by everyone else.
And now Ottawa fans have seen what he can do and are also more than willing to Pay him accordingly.
The kick in the balls is that we got 2 weak picks for a true top 6 NHL player.
I am a Hemsky fan, been one my favorite Oilers of the last decade. I, and a lot of people, have always thought Hemsky could be a ppg player with the right line mates. And his play away from the puck has greatly improved over the years.
Having said all that I would be leery of giving him more than 4-4.5/year especially if you plan on getting rid of his country mate.
I do not think Hemsky will get more on the open market that what Ottawa will offer especially if it is as high as people here are saying. The league/GMs has never given Hemsky the credit I thought he deserves so you should be safe to offer him a lower dollar figure and get him to sign.
Just in case his production does drop I think the very most anyone should offer Hemsky is 4 mill/year for 4 years max. Which of course would be a sick bargain if he continues to play well for Ottawa but if his plays drops should be right on target.

it could be a front loaded contract if anything. but yes him and michalek are buddies and his departure might hurt our chances of re-signing Hemmer. Ideally I liked to see both stay, but I dont see Milo taking huge pay cut

This. In fact I'm pretty sure the deal was only 5 per year average. People are flip-flopping a bit on his value.
As far as the picks go, it's underwhelming for sure, but it was clear that Hemmer's time with the Oil was done and he'd be moving on. It's a 3rd and a 5th not for Hemsky, but for 17 games of Hemsky. Fair enough.
I think Hemsky may just re-sign with Ottawa too. Hemsky's a homebody. I think if a (non-Edmonton team wants him) they can have him. He's a team guy and he wants to dig his feet in as opposed to chasing money/glory. |

I don't see us resigning Ryan, and that will be due to him wanting to leave... He will be traded to the Flyers next season for a 1st, roster player and prospect.

Reuniting a soft, injury prone underachiever with Spezza and Ryan sounds like an excellent idea to me. - Pecafan Fan

Yeah, they were offering more per on what I heard was a five year term.
Without knowing how much per, I don't know which contract was richer overall... |

Doesnt matter as it done........ the Leafs cap space will pay the price going forward.. |
