I know. I still think he was a better player than Gretzky was, all things considered.
At that, I'm gonna get some sleep. And by get some sleep, I mean study Molecular Bio until 3 am.
Great discussion tonight gentlemen.
Til tomorrow, this is GiG signing off - Giroux_Is_God
I love ehen people say this. Lemiux was the total package. Size speed skill. As a few posters said, he endured more physical punishment than Gretzky did which shortened hus career pkus Cancer to boot. I would have loved it if he was blessed with better health but hd wasnt. Gretzky saw the game at a different speed and a different plain. He has more assits than than the second leading scorer in history has points (messier). Mario deserves to be discussed, but Gretzky is the Great One

I've had this argument with several of my buddies. Quite frankly, there is no discussion to be had.
The one thing I wonder though, Is how would Gretz fair in this era of Hockey in his prime? Buttrfly goalies... Guy always shot low. Them stand up goalies back in the day were not hard to beat if you were elite.
I like to think of Crosby as the modern day Gretz. He puts up fantastic numbers considring the game is completely different than the 80s and 90s.
But regardless of stand up goalies or not. I truly belive Gretz was one of a kind.
In every other sport, In the modern day weve been able to say this guy is the next hank aaron, or micheal jordan or joe namath.
Nobody will be the next gretzky. Not possible. |

he mesmerized the opposition. they would kind of just stand around and watch him. nobody really has that type of power these days.

Here's my hockey truth:
I'm glad goaltenders stopped being awful, nonathletic fat asses.(except hammarby31, who, if you skate into his crease, I'll kick your ass).
The game caught up to Gretz. That's all.

Mario played in a time when clutching and grabbing was rampant in the league; he took a beating and was still one of the greatest. That's what sets him and Gretzky apart.
The illness was rough, and the respect everyone around the league had for him showed. When he came back and got that ovation in Philly, my eyes welled up. Moments like those are never talked about in regards to the fans in Philly. - tangent_man
You sure the fans weren't cheering for the cancer that forced him to retire? |

Pretty sure the refs didn't call a penalty on the stars after the Simmonds penalty where berube flipped out. Downie cross checked by benn I the middle of the ice was one. Counted a few others. Poor job of reffing. I'd rather the ref call a bench minor than hold it against the flyers the rest Of the way |

I just don't know what's gotten into this guy - Giroux_Is_God
The other player, Glendening, didn't even fall down, let alone get hurt. On the ice, it looks like this was a 2 minute Cross Checking penalty. And we're talking about the Pens. I'll be (pleasantly) surprised if Neal gets anything for this. |

Ok so...this means he must start the year in the N/AHL or Juniors? Is there a rule like the 9 game tryout in the beginning of the year, only for the end of the season in the AHL? |

According to sportsclubstats.com , the Flyers are now at 92.7% when it comes to their chance of making the playoffs... I must say, they've done quite well in the first 4 games of the 12 in this difficult stretch.

I think he can go back to Sweden and play another year there too. |
