If the Pens go out before the Conference Finals is Bylsma in trouble?
- ravishingone

It's an interesting thought. I think it depends on how they go out, if they do get eliminated.

You do have to remember this is a team that has just been smoked by injuries, even worse than the Flyers we usually have to deal with. I think he's safe, Shero and Fleury too for that matter, unless it's a circus, like I touched on in my post before this one.

yeah, i think its how it happens is key. if you lose a hard fought series to boston. there isnt shame in that. say columbus comes in and spanks you in 5 in the first round. then yes.

Exactly.

And following up with what you said about Shero and Bylsma...I'm just gonna take this time to say I think Bylsma makes some uhhhh- interesting- decisions sometimes. I do think he'd be the first to go, if anyone goes.

Totally agreed.

I think that entire core deserves another bite at the apple.

Bylsma and Shero would get jobs in 0.5 seconds if they got let go.

You're not wrong, because of the coach shelf life, but I do think DB is a really good, smart coach.

Also, Mr. FnNet, what do we think about Neal's crosscheck to the head tonight?

and they both deserve them. theyre not bad at what they do. i think bylsma is a good coach. just not for the pens. at least anymore. i think DB would be best taking a team of hard working grinders with little skill to the next level.

ive yet to see it. is it awful? i love him as a player, but this is getting to be ridiculous. it sucks because he is very important to the team, but there is absolutely no reason for him to be a (frank)ing scumbag, and repeatedly so. im reserving judgement until i actually see it, but going under the assumption that it is, he needs to be sat down. for a very long time. sucks to lose him, but playoffs too. i think thats when it really sends the message like it did for cooke.

another thing about this, is its virtually impossible for them to have shots at the apple as a core because theyre never healthy together.

Exactly.

That's why it feels unfair to just jettison the guy.

Ultimately, Sid does have the power to dictate the coach. Eric did here to an extent, and I imagine Sid does there.

And I can't say you're wrong about Bylsma here.

Maybe they've tuned him out like the Flyers did Laviolette? Only the guys in the lockerroom can say.

He's a good young coach that's won a cup. Just like Lavvy. Maybe he needs a break for when the game changes back to his style?

i just dont think hes a match for this team. he wants to be a gritty, grind it out style. i dont think he can differentiate between being hard working but skilled, and yet trying to force a style youre not.

im not saying be total fairies out there, but recognize what you are. when you are at your best, you are a puck control, finesse, skill and speed based team. yes, work hard and fight for loose pucks and the like, but dont think youre going to grind/intimidate a team into submission. youre just undercutting yourself and are going to lose.

He's gotten nailed with suspensions....what- 4 times in the last 2 seasons? I think it's time Shanny levies a fat one here because he's obviously not taking the hint.

If Matt (frank)ing Cooke can clean up nice, I'm sure this guy can.

im just glad he didnt go in with a ton of force. but why are your hands even up that high. ever? let alone leading with your stick.

youre one of the best snipers in the game. why do you fancy yourself as some (frank)ing gritty enforcer desperado goon? (frank) off. your captain has had severe head issues. YOU have had head issues. absolutely no respect or common sense. and its clear that a 2 game ban isnt enough for him to learn.

how many games are left? 11 or so? if its up to me, i give him 15.

It feels like the league has gotten really defensive again.

Anytime Ken Hitchcock is having success, we should be worried.

Ray Shero needs to sit down and figure out an identity. Look at the Bruins. They have an identity. They aren't giving up a damn thing and will wait until you (frank) up. And then, their talented players will pounce. They look like the mid 90's Devils to me.

I was gonna say at 7-10.

It's at the point now where it's just ridiculous. At some point, even after sitting him on the step night after night, you have to put your foot down and send him to bed with no dinner.

see, i think the pens have an identity. they just dont recognize it. i will be the first to say it. the players, at least over the last few years, dont have a ton of heart. and when they do try to display it, its just stupid undisciplined antics.

i love them and am a huge fan of the team and the vast majority of the guys on it. but im not going to be biased about it. they suck mentally.

I don't know what Neal's prior rap sheet looks like, so I'll trust your judgement on this.

The thing that troubled me, and I have no emotional stake in the player, is the non-chalance in the action.

i say whatever number will include 3 playoff games. thats what it has to be. thats what it will take. anything less, and whats the point?

lose an opening playoff game like 2 1 or something without your best sniper. not the last couple meaningless games. now, if the wheels arent turning at that point. dont come back to the game.
