I hAve a delima... I'm all set to make my yearly trip for sabres game in April but thinking maybe I'll skip that and go to a playoff game instead. How hard is it to get playoff tickets? Money not an issue. Any info??? Never been to a playoff game in Philly.
- Sms401

Tough to say.

It depends on the opponent and how the team looks. Many STHs that I know do not part with their playoff tickets easily; other view them only as investments to sell off.

If they play a more traditional Flyers rival, the ticket market will be a robust one. If it's CBJ, as some have speculated, I don't think that matchup will quite have the juice that facing, say, a traditional Patrick Divison opponent like NYR, Pitt, or even Washington will have.

Or we could not give up assets for an undersized kid with zero pro experience and keep our blossoming 2nd line center, and just sign the kid as a UFA.

I like Gaudreau. I like seeing him play, and I really liked him in the WJC. That said, he is nothing more than a small, fast forward who's never played 1 pro game. I'd rather not give up on a young yet now somewhat proven 2nd line center to a team that, really, has very few players of value.

I didnt say trade schenn FOR Gaudreau. I said in a seperate move to get a top defender if you can get Gaudreau under contrcat this year. You have to admit those forward units look sexy.

The Ginger Line... Scotty-Roo-Jake.
2nd line.... Adding Gaudreau would add much needed speed and move Vinny back to center with Simmonds on this line.
Shutdown line... Add Raffl to Couturier and Read and now not only do you have a great and I mean... GREAT defensive unit, but they should be able to score... a lot.
The 4th line would have some Grit and skill... Perfect.

First of all, you're assuming Gaudreau makes the jump from undersized speedy college kid to second-line winger. He could be the next Jeff Farkas.

Secondly, there are virtually no pieces on Calgary that excite me.

Yes, I'd love to get Gaudreau. But if we're moving our emerging second line center, I'd rather get a proven impact player.

I hate that I'm constantly shooting your ideas down, as I have nothing against you. But moving a guy who's finally fulfilling part of his #4 overall status for a prospect and what are essentially spare parts (i.e. everything else on Calgary) just makes no sense to me.

Hopefully we can solidify our 2nd line at some point. If Vinny starts to play the way he can, we can make a decent run fir the rest of the season. Maybe win a round or two!

There would be better options for us in a trade. Schenn is starting to show signs that he might at least get closer to expectations after this year... Which is why I day we sell high on him!

For a dman only though.

Which is fine. I'm all for moving a guy if he makes the team better. But shy of Monahan and multiple high picks, nothing on Calgary interests me. Moving him for anything on Calgary makes this team worse.

Now, if we could get a guy like Lindholm or (dare I dream) Jacob Trouba, then yeah, let's talk!

interesting that devils are ranked #1 by this person. many devils fans i used to correspond with back on usenet newgroup 100 years ago used to complain constantly about how poor the front office was at treating the season ticket holders as well as their poor job of marketing the team. maybe things have changed since moving to newark.

I dont want to move Schenn to Calgary... I said seperate deal. The only deal we make with Calgary is to get Gaudreau's rights, for like a 2nd round pick.

Take B.Schenn and L.Schenn and move them to another team for a top defenseman. As much as I hate losing either Schenn or Couturier, we are primed to do it this offseason. they both raised thier value big time, and Laughton will be coming up, and Lecavalier can easily stil fill a 2nd line center role... or 3rd line center roll depending on who is moved.

And Gaudreau could be a bust. But Matt Read is an undersized forward that came from college. What we do know of Gaudreau is he could play against the best in the world in his age group. He was good in the WJC in a year that NHL players were playing the WJC because of lockouts. That is a good start for me.

i suppose that's true, but i seriously doubt their fanbase has increased in any significant amount since the early 2000s when the devils were a true powerhouse and winning cups which is when these folks were complaining. shouldn't have been hard to cater to them then. then again, the game and everything around it has changed a lot since that time, so...

not a surprise to see the rangers at 29. tickets are crazy expensive and they give them jack squat for it.

Read was/is bigger and older than Guadreau. I'd love to get him, but signing him and trading Schenn are two separate things that should have nothing to do with each other.

I don't think signing Gaudreau makes the Flyers more willing to deal Schenn. Either Schenn.

I thought you meant a separate deal with Calgary.

Still, remember, it's more than likely that Schenn's cap hit will actually decrease this season. So I see no imperative reason to move him. I have no problem with a young core of centers.

If he makes it to FA, then I like his chances to join the Flyers. He is LW, and we are a bit weak on that side.

If Calgary doesnt sign Gaudreau by June 1, I would like to see Homer make a deal with Calgary to get hid rights at the draft to sign him. And give them leverage to make a deal of Schenn and Schenn for a top defenseman or top draft pick.

I don't know what to make of the Paul Ranger thing.

It looked like he turned into the hit a bit....and I don't feel like there was a ton of intent there to put the guy into next week. It happened and I guess the ref has to call that and throw the guy out if, for no other reason, to keep him from getting killed.

What did you think?

- johndewar

I think this is the perfect example of why the forechecker should be able to "wrap up" the target inorder to alleviate the impact. By doing so, it greatly reduces the vulnerability of the player being hit into the boads by giving that player more leverage.

Perc for beign a devils season ticket holder...

1. you can buy nosebleed seats and move down to good seats when the game starts.

2. Plenty of parking

3. no lines in the bathrooms at intermission

4. no lines at the food stands during intermissions.

5. you can make a killing getting playoff tickets and selling them to other local fan bases like the Rangers or Flyers fans...

6. Elbow room
