Or, you know, he could be a public defender.
- jmatchett383

So you missed the part where he uses loopholes to get guilty people free? See that Florida girl that killed her toddler and got away with it. Or OJ Simpson.

Throw 'em in prison and make a profit off them!
- wolfhounds

Or, if you want to clean them up, throw them in a dank, stone cell. They'll either commit suicide, mutilate themselves, or come out clean.

You know what?

Why don't you guys just play fantasy hockey?

This seems like a lot of work to judge it like ice dancing.

- mayorofangrytown

Because this isn't like fantasy hockey, where production is key to everything. I think the goal here is/should be to build a complete team with players who fit certain roles.

And see who puts together the best team. Judged by our Lord And Master Bill Meltzer.

Those weren't loopholes. Those were cases of incompetent prosecuters.

I hear it, but no one made them do drugs.

I'd rather they be required to do public service, and the fined for failure to do so.

- jmatchett383

Yeah, but he gets really upset when he has to levy fines against weed smokers.

He says these kids have no direction. They could get out of most of these things if they would just show up for their hearings. He says more than half of them never show up and get the raw end of the deal. Its just sad.

Hmm, I wonder if Bill prefers a nice bottle of scotch or a really good case of craft beer?

I'll send both...

Well, again, them not showing up is on them. I know that there are circumstances surrounding them that may lead them to that sort of behavior, but in the end, they have to be responsible for their actions. At some point, you can't just assume the law doesn't apply to you.

How about we legalize all drugs at once. Plan for it. Say in 3 months, all drugs will be completely legal. But the catch is, everything must be closed for 2 weeks.

In that time, all the drug addicts can kill themselves by overdosing on thier now legal... much cheaper drugs... leaving us good law abiding citizens much better off.

Oh and now no more gang wars over drugs. And no more tax money to fight war on drug, and no more paying for people to be in prision for drugs....

hmmm... this was a bit tonge in cheek, but now I'm starting to like it...

Because!

Also, there will be multiple categories judged, not just "who has the best combination of goals, assists, and penalty minutes?"

- jmatchett383

So if you fall on the triple sowcow you're still in?

What do you mean "everything must be closed for 2 weeks?" Also, I've had this thought several times, and really, it won't solve things.

Everything closes for 2 weeks so us innocent people arent on the roads or around these people that go crazy with thier OD's.

Shouldn't you just pick players until a defenseman goes and then go get beers or something.

So the people who actually allow society to function are not allowed to do so for 2 weeks and must instead fortify their houses in an effort to allow for all-out war on the streets? I'll pass.

Yup and the other half is there for failure to pay taxes or child support... They let the violent offenders out because of over-crowding...

Probably not. In fact, fining them will probably force them to steal, if anything. That's why I'm a fan of making them work off their debt to...well, themselves. or just send them to Maury.
