What had Cody Hodgson shown you this season that says he warrant's a number 1 center role next year....

- bluengold12

What makes you think we can get a true number 1 in The offseason?

If there was some dream scenario where we got Reinhart, Moulson and Evander Kane which would mean giving up either Ehrhoff or Myers I would guess the lines would be something like

Moulson Ennis Kane
Hodgson Reinhart Stafford
FA signing Girgesons Stewart
Flynn Kaleta
Delarisuas, Foligno, Mitchell, Varrone, Larrson, Conacher, Grigerenko all in the mix for a shot

Then our D would be

Myers Ristolinoen
Pysyk FA
FA Weber...
assuming it's Ehrhoff going back for Kane.

I like the idea of Kane but Ehrhoff would not waive to go to Winnipeg and I don't want to trade Myers. I have no idea what it would take to get Kane but love the idea.

True but I don't see any other way people here think we'd be getting Kane

Would take some sort of Ehrhoff or Myers type or maybe maybeee Hodgson and a 2nd +

I would think the Jets would want a ton for Kane, not sure we could pull that off. I prefer to keep Hodgson for now, until Reinhart and MacDavid are in the fold, then move him.

Yeah I tend to agree with this.. If Grigs showed any kind of growth this year it would have made Hodgson expendable but of course he didn't... I'd like to know what others here who mentioned getting Kane earlier think it would take to get him... Ehrhoff like you said probably wouldn't waive his no trade there and Myers isn't exactly a fair trade IMO. Maybe have to give up a 1st like St Louis's in 2015?

I wish people would stop talking about us getting McDavid. You're talking about tanking a whole season when we don't even know who will be on the team. Reinhart is a strong possibility. What if a team that needs a center wins the lottery though?

I think its a 90% chance we draft either Bennett or Reinhart. Regardless if we draft 1st or 2nd

Bennett has some eye popping numbers. He has 114 penalty minutes. Does he fight or is he just really undisciplined? 6' 181 lbs. doesn't sound like a scrapper.

what has cody hodgson shown? he has shown that the rest of this team blows and he is just as good of an option as everyone else. that is what he has shown. he may not be a #1 quality center..... but on this team he is right there, it is between him and tennis as to who plays that role

Considering this year its been Ennis and Hodgson's played so poorly that at times Brian Flynn has taken over as the number 2 center I'd say if the choice was between Ennis and Hodgson its Ennis by a mile and that's not saying much about this team. If we luck out and get Reinhart he may not get it first week of training camp but I guarantee he'd be playing 2nd line center on this team above Hodgson by November . Again its a reflection on this team more than anything

He's gritty. Is my sense. Plays like Gilmour I hear. He's not top line center status but has potential to be a top line winger. He's a bit undersized at 6 foot but he plays with a lot of grit for a skilled guy which is rare.

I wasn't talking about you specifically. I'm just saying it makes sense to talk about Reinhart because we are almost definitely finishing 30th this season. We have no idea wat next season holds.

That is part of the issue, when you arent playing with consistent line mates, then you dont have a feel where someone will be and you cant expect someone to be in position, wherever that might be. When the guys you are playing with do not have a level of skill, it is difficult to say how good one individual would be if he was playing with someone that could support him. Any number of players could have better production on a more stable team with better talent, so it isnt necessarily a zero sum game and potential isnt being reached on this team.

Hodgson was fine when he was around good wingers. He isn't the number one guy I want going forward but he is the best option in that scenario since Ennis and Stafford have been clicking and I wouldn't want them broken up but don't want either being on a top line. Neither guy is a number one. He holds that spot until Reinhart hopefully would take it from him.

Maybe so but I think Ennis is the better player right now. I think we bring in a top 2 line winger somehow this offseason regardless. If its trade or FA plus whoever we draft. Even though Bennett IMO is still a year away. So Reinhart would be ideal.

So you are putting Flynn over Hodgson??? You do realize Hodgson has more goals than Flynn has points right?

Hodgson is fine when he was playing with good forwards. Let's wait for Flynn to get over 30 Pts before claiming him to be a second line center on any team even this one

Your not getting the point. Of course I'm not putting Hodgson over Flynn just saying Nolan moved him to wing and Flynn to his center I take that as a minior demotion. Obviously Flynn is best suited for a 3rd or 4th line energy/penalty killer guy which he is at now but any guy who is demoted at any portion of the year by Brian Flynn doesn't deserve 1st line center status no matter how weak the team is. Ennis is one of only two Sabres with goals in a long time he's the number 1 center of the team until Grigs magically steps up or we draft Reinhart and he grows into it.

Cody is better suited to play the top line center role and he proved it playing with Vanek and Pommer. Not saying he is my top guy going forward but if you add a Moulson and Kane I would want him there over Ennis no matter how good Ennis is going right now.

Nolan is trying to get him going anyway he can. Like playing the wing so he could hang back like he did against Montreal. This team is garbage pretty much all around I wouldn't call it a demotion it's more of a trying to get him going again

Ennis is playing great with Staff and Conacher . Right now that seems to be the #1 line till we can get Cody some wingers to compliment him. Until that happens , Ennis in the #1 center on the team.
