The only player I could see you referring to would be McBain, and I dont think hed get anything outrageous.

Unless you're counting Ennis and Foligno which I have heard a lot of people say trade Ennis but thats hilarious considering hes been our best forward for the majority of the season. Foligno is a fan favorite, so I havent heard too many people say trade him, but I personally wouldnt disagree with it. I think those 13 games a couple season ago inflated his value and hes come back down to earth.

The high school girls would be upset but most real hockey fans with real knowledge wouldnt be sad to see Foligno go

I'd like to see more Deslauriers before I go shipping out Foligno. Who's to say he doesn't end up having some of the same consistency issues we've seen from Foligno?
- HonkFortheGoose

If that is the case, we do not need both. Make Foligno available while his value is still high.

Foligno value to this team is a lot higher than his value in a trade. In saying that, his value is not "high" right now.

Impact of 2014 Deadline Deals

Well, it has been two weeks since the big trade deadline. I always wonder if the GMs and the fans of those teams are happy with the deals that were done or in many cases not done.

While I’m not about to look up each and every deal to see what all the players have done since the deadline, the two names that I keep hearing about are Ryan Miller and Martin St.Louis. How good the one player is playing and what’s wrong with the other. I am sure that you all know who is who.

The Blues have gone 8-0-1 since acquiring Miller, his save percentage is .933. The Blues might well win the Stanley Cup with this move; not only is Miller stopping the puck, he has made the players that play in front of him better.

Right but Miller isn't clutch. Or something, I havent figured out what I can still criticize him for yet. I'll think of something.

I got it, Crosby owns him

Only reason his value is high to this team from many fans POV is because he is local.

Foligno+Ehrhoff can land a good top 6 winger.

Get a top 6 winger in a trade try to sign Moulson of July 1 draft reinhart. It would help the team tremendously.

Youd be fooling yourself if you think Moulson wont at least think about coming here once FA is over. We have the most money to give, Teddy as coach (should be settled) and he would have even considered going back to the Isle but they straight out said they dont want him there which Murray never said.

Also would you pay Ville Leino to finish his contract here or give him a compliance buy out and give Callahan 7 mil for same amount of years Leino has left? I understand we want to be bad but with a team in the gutter and no identity I would buy out Leino and give Callahan his 7 nil. for the same remaining years Leino has. We get a better Leino and a leader.

Food for thought even with it all being speculation

To ninth? I get the thinking here and I like Moulson but I'd be hesitant to make those sorts of moves. I guess depending on the age of the forward coming in via trade matters as well. Maybe if the Isles defer you can go for it knowing your chances are a lot higher?

With the probability that the lottery will be changing, does it really seem to matter where a team finishes next year? If you do not make the playoffs, you have an equal chance of getting the #1 overall. If we have the Isles pick next year, it seems like we should try to make the team as good as we can to accelerate our road to success.

I get that but no one really knows what the change is yet. By the sounds of things, it still seems like the best way to get to the top of the draft is through being at the bottom of the standings (percentages withstanding).

The one i've heard on more than one occasion is having a separate lottery for the bottom three teams, but in that scenario the worst team in the league is still guaranteed a top 3 pick. The other one that's been mentioned is a rolling lottery like they did in 2005 but that actually benefits us given we'd be out of the playoffs for 3 straight years by then.

If the change to the lottery is as a drastic as giving everyone an equal chance then I'd be more inclined to agree with your last point there.

No. The odds would decrease slightly, and there would be a lottery for the top 3 picks is what i read.

The NHL fears teams are going to tank next year to try and land McDavid.

What the hell do they care if teams tank? They are still making money.

I was taking it from some of the conversations that were had about the possibility of the draft becoming more of an "equal opportunity." I do not know the extent to which changes, if any, will be made.

I think the only thing it wipes away is that for instance in this year if your the worst team you can only drop to #2 and so on. SO in essense you could dead last and drat 14th

I can't imagine all 30 GM's agreeing to that though. I'm sure some changes will be made but I don't think they'll be as radical as some have suggested.

He has always been mediocre , He has no Stanley Cups or Conn Smythe trophies . He has never impressed me . We were lucky to get anything for him ! St Louis would have won all those games without him !

If you added a Moulson and say an Evander Kane and drafted Reinhart thats 3 potential top 6 forwards. I would think that would help a lot. It would all depend on the Islanders pick. If we don't get it this year I would think they would try to be better next year.

Our current top 6 has maybe 2 top 6 players (Ennis and Stafford as second line guys). Its all what ifs and such but you add better forwards the D gets better just by not having to play in our zone all game long.

The lottery will now be in order of finish , That way we can become like the NBA so there are power franchises and everyone else struggles.

The NFL makes so much money because of the TV contracts. All the advertising and stuff. It's the same reason though, that many teams are having trouble selling tickets now. The TV product has become so good, people would much rather stay home, drink their cheaper beer/food/etc, use their own bathroom, and get a better experience than if they were sitting at the game. HD TV and all the other technological advances have made watching it on TV a better experience than sitting in the stands can compete with.
- HonkFortheGoose

OK - you still havent addressed the point that the NBA isnt making money - but the NHL is trending towards that model, which was more of what I was trending to.

The NFL experience sucks live because you have to sit through a ton of 2 minute tv timeouts because the tv networks have to recoup their investment. There is something to learn from that as well, no question, but also the reason that it sucks going to games...
