It sounds like the GM's are the one driving the issue as it was brought up at a GM meeting. My guess the franchises that are doing well (Boston, St Louis, LA) teams that didn't tank to get to where they are (not you Pittsburgh, Chicago) are the ones driving this issue. I think its crap that because the next draft supposedly has the next Crosby-like player in McDavid and another franchise stud in Eichel that its coming up now but whatever until I see a live "lottery" there will always be the conspiracies surrounding it. Look at the NBA lottery's and the questionable "winners" the last few years. - Stripes77
St Louis tanked the same way we are. Our rebuild looks much like theirs. |

Well it cost him on the return.
They'd of gotten a later 1st from Anaheim had they ate part of his salary.
The Islander fans suffer from Wang ownership. - dadeadhead
I agree.
Snow isnt great, but my god, how far can Wang throw Snow under the bus there.
We have a decent return available to recoup some of the assets we threw away for Vanek, but no I don't wanna retain salary, I would rather have my GM that I won't fire get lambasted |

And at this point Snow isn't going to quit unless it gets really bad.. he can't get another job in his position in the NHL with his resume |

Do we have a point or are we just complaining? Would Miller, Pomminville, Vanek, and Gaustad have made us a cup winner? We didnt even make the playoffs with all of them recently. So our rebuild is unacceptable - because "Crosby 2" is up for grabs?
Eff this league if we suck and dont get a top 2 pick in 15. |

Also, they will eventually turn the corner with the pieces he put there. I'm sure hed like to see that through
Again not calling him a good GM |

Johnson was their only top 3 pick in the last 10 years and only drafted in the top 10 twice counting Johnson. The next highest pick was 4th. They made a great trade to get Schwartz and Tarensenko 2 picks apart in the 2010 draft. But i wouldnt say they tanked. They drafted very well.
They did have one draft with 3 first round picks and all of them made the NHL |

i thought they would do that this season.. but they still failed to get a real goalie and shore up the defense.. then they went and lost mcdonald and moulson, that set them back. |

IMO we are rebuilding in the mold of Chicago.
We have a foundation in place on the blueline and we will draft our Toews/Kane in the next 2 seasons and be ready to go. |

Fair enough - I didnt know that - so I will have to read that article that was posted.
I know Bettman came from the NBA - that doesnt mean that he is driving these issues (I dont know that for sure), but in the recent past they have failed keeping this league financially viable - the reason for the last two lockouts. The NFL makes money hands over fist - while the NBA is barely treading water - but we think it is best to follow in the footsteps of the NBA?
I still think that it is better to be seen than heard, and Pegula, as much as I liked what he said, stepped in a pile of turd by opening his mouth. He should have been more conservative in his rhetoric and just done what he wanted to do operationally without flapping his gums all over the place. - atlsabsfan
The NFL makes so much money because of the TV contracts. All the advertising and stuff. It's the same reason though, that many teams are having trouble selling tickets now. The TV product has become so good, people would much rather stay home, drink their cheaper beer/food/etc, use their own bathroom, and get a better experience than if they were sitting at the game. HD TV and all the other technological advances have made watching it on TV a better experience than sitting in the stands can compete with. |

The point is our rebuild looks much like what St Louis did which is the exact opposite of what you said.
Move older talent for picks and prospects. Use those assets to build a foundation of youth. When the time is right, move some of that youth for older vets to put you over the hump.
They made the playoffs 25yrs in a row then missed the playoffs 5 of 6yrs |

He does have a working relationship with Pepper Johnson. Run a 3-4 then him in the middle with Dareus and Kyle Williams on the ends? Freaking scary thought.

I'd guess Mario would have an issue moving to OLB. |

They didn't tank though is my entire point. They didnt have top 3 draft picks 2 or 3 years in a row. They were mediocre like the Sabres were. They werent the worst team in the league for several years like the Chicago's, Pittsburghs of the world |

He played OLB in Houston. He would basically be another end without putting his hand down (which he did a lot the last 2 years here)
So like a hybrid 3-4 but really playing as a 4-3 end |

They tanked enough to get the job done.
Like us. We will not be picking one or two next year. Moves will be made and the team will be drafting in the 6-10 range next year. |

allows for a nice rotation and doesnt make him have to be on the field all three downs. Keep them fresh |
