Way off topic, but what does everyone think of Deslauriers so far?
- jamesfrombuff

You mean the one from last year that looks like we have a 1-2 D-man in the making in Risto and an up and coming hulking d-man like Zadorov?

And he was apparently smart enough to realize that he needed to let Devine make the decisions that day. So he did something right.

Just in time for Connor McDavid. People already don't trust the league, they go about bait and switching for a prized draft pick it won't help their credibility.

As for Lieuwen - while I agree Goosie you want the Amerks to get their best shot, you also have to give players their shot. If he's the top goalie and we need one, you are sort of honor bound to give the kid a shot in the bigs.

BTW - that's the difference between tanking and rebuilding. You tank if you purposely misuse your resources to drive down your ability to compete. You are rebuilding if you happen to shift most of your veterans out for young players and picks.

- nfph

The whole Amerks thing is a tough one. I'm glad he's getting his shot. But at the same time, I feel like having him play on this team may do more harm to him than good. I can see it shaking his confidence and that's not going to help us any either.

Or, he could come and play lights out and prove that he's the guy they can rely on for at least a few years. It's hard to say either way. I just get the feeling that it will go the way of option 1, and not option 2.

He was still the GM......
- sbroads24

Darcy was good at making flipping talent for draft picks and creating mediocre teams.

'His' team had a two year peak and then nothing.

His picks are now considered 2/3 rd liners. His best trades he let go for nothing. Although his latest great trade yeilded a #2 Center that noone likes.

His last two 1st rounders he picks a top shelf 3rd liner (maybe 2nd) in Girgensens and a guy who can't play in the NHL (yet?)

He has drafted players that excel in the AHL. That is true.

How does this rate with 30 other teams and how they consistently draft ?

That was the other 1/2 of that return. Our goal scorers are minimum 2 years from being graded at the NHL level.

That's usually what picking 12-18th gets you. Now we have the assets to aquire top end talent as well as we will be drafting in the top 2 this season.

But NF... These guys are not going to be the "go to" sure to score a goal type players. I doubt any of them ever scores 20 goals in a season in the NHL.... We have way too many of those players now.....

I think Possler could be a potential steal from the draft. Very good numbers in a very good league and a great shot.

I could see EDM giving Yakupov+Gagner, possibly a 2nd rounder...that could be pretty useful...
- mventres

No.

Gagne is nothing more than a 40 point/year guy.

Yak is too much of a wild card at this point. Could be the next Bure, could be the next Afinogenov, and I'm betting on closer to the latter. Not giving up the pick for more mediocrity.

Do you see us getting 2 nhl ready playmakers in this draft ? If we get 2 selections in the top five will we get 2 of them ?

Yaks been a major head case for the Oilers.Lots of talent but has a bad attitude and doesn't feel he needs to be a good two way player. We already have one of those guys in the KHL
