Sitting here wondering just what my late friend JTSWINEHART would say about this season. One of the most interesting buzzers I met....

I always wonder what he would have thought about the Corsi numbers.

I wonder if the Sabres are trying to win games with th most negative Corsi number. Do you think they could possibly shoot less?

I'm waiting for the 6 shots on goal in a shoot outwinner....ugh...

Wow..... So we now have lost 7 in a row..... That's my lucky number....... Not sure what it means though........ Other than the Sabres are just a terrible team.....

The Sabres now have a 0.0928% chance of finishing 29th.
The Islanders now have a 79.6801% chance of finishing in the bottom 4.
The Sabres are the only team mathematically out of the playoffs.
The Sabres have 6 goals in 7 games with 2 goal scorers.

i can't see this isles passing up a top 3 pick, regardless of what they said in a press conference. Realistically i think buffalo needs them to finish at about pick #5 if they are going to get it from them..

Its such a messy situation, to me the owner Wang should be the one to make the decision not Snow. Hear me out, if they were to pass on a top 5 pick snow should be relived of his duties. From him is the only way you could survive hey here is the plan we know we arent going to be very good. IF they pass then i'd start exploring the option of dealing their best players and go into full tank rebuild mode.

But in the end what I think they will do is if its top 5 they take it. THe reason being they have a 1st line center in JT so by getting Bennett/DaColle to put on his wing for a nice 1-2 scoring punch going forward. Who knows what can be there at that pick this time a year ago youd be ridiculed if you though Seth Jones could have been available, who knows maybe Ekbald is there for their pick if wingers go in the top few picks.

If the Islanders let the Sabres have it this year, is it safe to say the Isle are saying we are gunning for a top pick next year?

Every pick next year is gunning for the top pick. I just think it should be the owner to make the call. Its one hell of a gamble and I could see them just throwing Snow to the wolves to be the scapegoat. Passing on a top 5 pick sends an awful message to the room.

Snow shouldn't have made it into this season as the GM. that whole organization is screwed.. it is sad that used to be a great organization with a storied history.. now they can't even get players to stay beyond their ELC and don't know how to make trades or treat their players.

Yes, but if the Islse have a top 5 pick this year and let Buffalo have it they are saying, yeap we are going to be bad or worse next year.

Like you said, sends a terrible message. I can also see Vishnovsky(sp?) requesting a trade to a contender. Which would be an absolute nightmare for them.

The worst they can end up is 6th this year if someone out of the bottom 5 wins the lottery. With JT back in the thick of things, and some decent options at goalie coming up as UFA, they should be able to buy a goalie, and for what it is worth, they have some decent prospects, and potential to get a replacement for Moulson in the UFA market, I dont see them ending up in the bottom five next year.

Given the unknowns at this point for the lottery after this year, I dont think they are looking to have near the best chances to end up winning that lottery as I understand the options that the NHL is looking at (five year average), so I think they take their #1 this year.

But I am usually wrong, and if they dont win the lottery and end up at 5, they look at next years options and determine if their 15-ish pick next year compares to a top 5 this year and make the choice.

I know they say next year's draft is talented, but for those that have knowledge, how does a 2014 top 5 compare to a 2015 12-18-ish pick?

The NYI need more than a goalie, they need 2 top 4 Dmen, and they need a scoring forward. Coaching was a lot of their problem too, that appears to be fixed.

The top 5 this year would not be in the top 5 next year. So you would be getting a very good player at the 12-18 range.

12-18 ish pick between this year and next is long story short

wingers are better at that point this year where next year there will be better D men at that point. Wingers are higher this year and centers better next year. But the big thing is next years top end talent would be higher than any this year with the exception of Ekbald and apparently Bennett.

But if you could merge the two drafts probably go something like this;
1.McDavid
2.Jake Eichel
3.Aaron Ekbald
4. Sam Reinhardt
5. Sam Bennett
6. Dylan Strome
7. Matt Brazal
8.Leon Draisaitl
9. Noah Hanifin
10.Travis Konecny/Pavel Zacha/ Michael dal Colle

Was at the game last night and was a horrible effort on both sides. Definately a go through the motions game on both sides. Calgary is just as bad as we are but I'm not sure their prospects look as good as ours but who knows.

Risto is going to be very good in a few years.

The nice thing is that the Sabres are stockpiling 1st rounders for next year too. Increases their chances of getting #1 exponantially especially if they change the lottery again.
Here is a positive take on a new lottery system...they could get the 1st and 2nd pick in next years draft

Snows pretty much screwd either way. What if the Islanders end up in the bottom 5 next year with no first round pick ? Of course the wild card here is maybe they trade a player to get that pick back .I wouldn't give up the pick myself.
