Why?
He's gotten most of our guys playing better
Some A LOT better
And he's the guys giving a good effort most of the time as well
What's not to like about all that?

15-26-7. I know he's working with scraps, but I wouldn't give him a 3-year deal. 1 year makes more sense and if he can get anything at all out of next year's team you talk longer term.

Blues only allowed 17 SOG in their win last night. Miller must be loving life right about now.

Watched the game yesterday, geez I don't know what it is with this team, they had some glorious scoring chances. Now I know I have bagged Stafford in the past, but not sure how it is happened, but the Stafford/Ennis/Conachar line looked great everytime they were on the ice, Stafford driving the net, looked great.

Lieuwen (?), ok, first game, called in, but wow does he just look like an NHL goalie, he looks calm, steady and focused, Enroth always looks scared, he did look great though and covers more of the net.

- MikeyOz

i was very impressed with how calm Lewey was when he went in.. lets see how he does when he has a whole day to think about starting his first NHL game. If he has that same demeanor then i think he needs to stay with the team and continue his development..

I know development is a big word, but sometimes a player maybe should be in the big league because that is best for him, anyway see what happens, he did look good though, he didn't look out of place. But the worry would be like you said the number of shots he might face in a full game against a VERY good team.

I could totally see a random team like Florida or Carolina win the lottery

it is not just the number of shots faced it is also the mental aspect of waking up in the morning knowing you are going to be starting in tonights game vs. being a backup.. there is a big difference for some goalies.. will be interesting to see how or if it affects him

Carolina is not a very good team. In fact, they're awful.

I support another year at least in rock for Leu, and with this current goalie set up, that's all but a certainty to happen. It'll be cool watching him play a few more games for the rest of the season though. Unfortunately this will kill the Amerks. Any word on who they'll call up? Makarov seems to be the obvious choice.

If the hurricanes won, they would take a Dman.

They did call him up and another goalie. Will try and find the link from yesterday.

I saw Baker tweet something about some college goalie. UFA I would guess. Too lazy to dig.

I really think the only team that would take a D-Man first overall would be the Islanders.

that would have been my guess. Knapp was with the team to start the season i think.... then got demoted when his play was terrible..

What does Carolina have to do with it? He played in the game against Montreal.

Hackett and Lieuwen were the only two goalies to play any games for Rochester until recently.

Goose, it was a point about the shots being received. They shot the puck at the net 53 times. (54?)

That's what I'm asking though. WHO shot at the net? What team?

I'll summarize my thoughts. MickeyOz pointed out there's some uncertainty pertaining to a new goalie like Lieuwen being able to take a ton of shots from "a very good team."

My point was basically that it doesn't seem to matter what team we're playing, we always make them look better than they actually are because our shots against are usually monstrous or at the very least, incredibly unbalanced.

And to directly answer your question, this was the Hurricanes rifling shots (Skinner had 13 alone in that game) but yes, Lieuwen faced off vs the Canadiens for 10 shots. We were out shot of course but that was a below average game for the Habs.

As of today the Sabres are officially mathematically eliminated from playoff contention.
Theoretically, were we to win out we'd have 74 points. The 2nd Wild Card team in the Eastern Conference currently has 76 points.

The highest the Sabres could finish mathematically is 18th (as of yesterday morning I believe I read it somewhere).
