Like they really had to pinpoint a date . I was thinking they could have just said some time in October. Everyone would have been satisfied with that.

I guess if you're asking about best built in their era, I see it this way:

A) The '74 team was stacked. Their 3rd liners were all 30 goal scorers. But the goalies weren't even close to what they are now. So, for them to not win the Cup is much more disappointing, considering the team depth they had.

B) The '05 & '06 teams were up against far superior goaltending, and were still lights out in the goal scoring dept.

Imlach was not afraid of making a deal to improve his team, for sure. That would be Darcy's downfall.

I give Punch the win, as far as building a damn good team so quickly, but that team should have won it all, given the depth. So, '74 is the more disappointing team

Generally I like this post...good stuff...but If I understood your point on the goalies not being as good in the 70' compared to 2000's...then, of course, but that Can be aid of all positions. That team went up against the Flyers with Bernie Parent and through the Canadiens with Dryden if I recall correctly...that is the Quick & Miller back then. I had the benefit of watching both teams who were quite exciting, but I do have soft spot for the French connection, Danny Gare, Luce and Rammer.... Nobody could carry the puck through an entire team like Gilbert...I'd have to go with that '74 team...too bad they couldn't play each other.

Technically, they were eliminated when Philly picked up 2 points against Pittsburgh.

gotta put my 2 cents in. I think if the rumors of a 3 year deal for nolan are true its a mistake.

I think he's the wrong coach for the rebuild. I think he's done a great job turning this season around, but i think he's the wrong guy moving forward.

But who knows.

He's gotten most of our guys playing better

And he's the guys giving a good effort most of the time as well

You will be disappointed since finishing in last place is rewarded by having only 25% chance of winning the lottery to actually draft first. We have to hope the team that wins is so deficient in yound D-men that they have to draft Ekblad...the we get what we want in Reinhart.
Now, considering the luck associated with Buffalo sports teams, I'm preparing myself to accept the fact Reinhart will be gone ... If not then it is a bonus (rather than the usual bone us treatment we get).
