I'm thinking that last season was a mirage and the habs somehow went on a long-ass hot streak. Eventually, reality catch up with them and we saw what happened in the playoffs.

They're not a very good team, nor a highly talented one. But somehow, they manage to win more games than they lose. Which in itself is a mystery.

I think the reason is 2/3 of the league are just as inconsistant

thought he was technically sound, and really good. 2-0 against Anaheim and Buffalo. Looked much better than Budaj in both of them.
- EricEngels

Impossible. QP says he is NOT technically sound.

I don't think they are a very good team, but then who is?

16 teams go into the playoffs. Maybe 6 of them are "very good" or better?

Boston, Pittsburgh, Anaheim, San-Jose, Colorado, St-Louis

The rest are in the same boat as the Habs. If you can name any other team in the East that looks better than the Habs other than Boston and Pittsburgh, you're fooling yourself.

So yes, they win more than they lose because they are better than most of the other 30 teams in this league.

He's solid.

I'd like to see him improve on his lateral movements a little as he seems to slide too far out of his net sometimes and has to make a spectacular side jump to recover.

But hey, the man stops the puck when he needs to and has yet to let in a bad goal, keeping his team in the game. Which is more than Budajw as able to do in the last two weeks.

What's funny is that the exact opposite happened. Strong possession play is the hallmark of a good team, and is independent from luck. Luck affects shooting and save percentage, as measured by PDO.

The Habs were dominant all season, and were beaten in a short series by a team with a goaltender who got hot at the best possible time. The Habs have plenty of talent. They have Subban, one of the top-5 (easily) defensemen in the league. They have Price, arguably the best goalie in the league this season, and definitely top-5 over the past few years. They have Pacioretty, one of the top-10 wingers in the league, and one of the top 5 goal scorers per 60 mins of ice time over the past few seasons.

He's still young, and got injured early in the season. He could get there.

I sure hope so, this was the first time we have seen Budaj in a long stretch and it was ugly, sure he looked like a good backup only starting once a month but he cant be counted on for 10 games in a row

The guy is doing great in his role but isn't able to take on a greater role on the team.
