Dont trade out of the 1st overall pick. End of Story.
Buffalo needs Great forwards. You find them at the top of the draft. Buffali will be there this year.
This garbage comes up every year.
I remember Colorado was going to trade out of that spot too.... |

2 top line prospects+???
Who in their right mind would do that, especially in this years draft? - whipper334
yea this draft looks weak...I don't think you trade any of last years top 5 or 6 prospects for the first overall this year

Hey Sabres fans. I want your opinion. Which scenario, 1-4, would you prefer to happen in terms of our draft pick scenarios over the next few years? I wrote an article breaking down each scenario. Would love your input.

oh hell yeah you do! Perfect two-way defender for the future, plus, he has what we lack, a right handed shot!
Phaneuf - Ekblad
Gleason - Franson
Gunnarson - Rielly
Holland can replace Kadri as the 2nd line C . Re-up Bolland. - MCharisma91
Kadri?
Try again. Better yet, I don't like any of your prospects, so don't call. |

If anything I would start a bidding war between Edmonton and Florida for the 1st pick since both those teams need Ekbald and the sabres don't. If the haul is big enough it would be worth it. Especially if buffalo gets the isles pick this year. - Themomentgood
Calgary would also get in on that for sure with Burke at the helm |

i like what i see from murray so far. sounds like he has an idea of what a winner looks like and he is willing to sit down and talk about any players/prospects/picks if the price is right. the market changes all the time- the cost to move into the top 3 of last years draft was supposed to be ridiculous, next years will probably be impossible, who is willing to overpay for this years players? |

wait, why did eklund even write this article? the lottery isnt for another month, and even if we lose every game for the rest of the season we only have a 25% chance of getting the first pick to possibly trade it. |

With no clear cut #1,
It at least makes sense to see what teams will offer
I'd prob still take Reinhart though, unless someone blows me away with an offer
Another thing to factor in...
If NyI gives u their 1st this year (in fear they could miss a chance at McDavid/Eichel next year), we could have something like the 1st & 4th pick...
So trading the 1st makes a lot of sense in that case
We still might end up with whoever we have ranked #1 on our draft board
Regardless,
This situation has so many possible outcomes for us
Should be a crazy time at the draft for Sabres' fans |

too bad they only have a 25% chance of getting 1st |

my god the islanders are screwed. i actually think that they would have been better off just saying- the sabres have the islanders first round pick in 2014. |

The Islanders will not give up their first this year. Simply because doing so admits that they will be terrible again next year. Especially with it shaping out to be a top 5 pick.
They may be terrible next year, but no team can go into the season with that expectation. It will destroy their players and will lead to them leaving down the line.
Why would Tavares want to stay there knowing that his teams management expects them to fail. |
|
|
|
If Florida is willing to move theirs and want a top 6 forward and a top 4 defenseman, would they consider:
Hudler
Wideman (half salary retained so he would only be $2.625 mil per year)
and maybe a 2nd round pick (preferably the Colorado pick)
For their first?
I know I'm probably dreaming, but Hudler would be their top scoring player this season, and Wideman right up there with Campbell for defense. I could see them preferring a more defensive defenseman, but Wideman has improved his defensive play this season. It's just hard to tell with the team he is on. Maybe a Smid?
Is this even close? Add some tweaking to it? |

that was a discussion on here the other day. whats the cutoff for the islanders where they actually decide to push the pick to next year. top 3, top 5? is this years top 10 gonna be that much weaker than next years? all questions for garth snow, a man that makes the isles fans long for the salad days of mike milbury. |

I don't think it matters on a cut off, especially when their pick will be top 5 (barring the lottery). They cannot go into next season admitting failure before the season starts. How can any team do that.
Last season they made the playoffs. They have to go into it thinking that they can get back there. Tavares will be back. Okposo has been amazing. They have some great prospects about to crack the lineup, and then add in whomever they would draft this year. I'm not saying instant success, but I can't see them anywhere in the running for the first overall next year.
I say that they need to offer a lot to one of the UFA goaltenders, and they will be much improved. Make a huge offer to Hiller (I'd say Miller but I think he wants to be in the west). |

I can't imagine that Snow could keep his job if he gives up this years pick
It's gonna be top5 for sure
He gives us the 2014 pick then what was the point of putting that clause in the Vanek trade?
The collapse they have had us exactly why he did it
He gives us a top5 pick,
And I don't think he's around in 2015 to MAYBE have a shot at McDavid IF they suck again

That trade would add depth,
But they'd prob keep the pick in hopes they can get a "difference maker" in the draft
However,
Now that they have Luongo they could be in win NOW mode...
In that case, maybe they do consider trading the pick
EDM has been rumored all year to be willing to trade their top pick this year bc thu wanna win now
So u might have some options out there

this is so far from true.
and the islanders will not give up there pick in 14. it makes absolutely no sense. as bad as the media portrays them, they are still stacked with offensive talent, with a few high draft picks expected to make the team next year, with hopefully a new goalie. the entire team will be different - younger, more skilled. to expect them to bottom feed next year is silly. they will be much improved...how much? not sure, but they should certainly not be in the running for mcdavid. |
